About this deal

In many cases the washing machine starts running fine, and completes the wash cycle but then trips the breaker, fuse or RCD when the spin cycle begins. Overloading – if you try to squeeze too many items in one wash, you could be left with no clean clothes at all. Overloading means the clothes can't move around the machine, dirt can get trapped between items of clothing and it leaves little room for the detergent to disperse. A washing machine that doesn't clean your clothes is far from ideal. But it happens – and more often than you'd think. The printed circuit board could burn out and cause a short, but in most cases this would be visible and easy to spot.

Other causes include a faulty drive motor or pump. If you're still not sure on the cause call in a professional to inspect your machine. Washing machine isn't heating the waterIf I do the same test on the fan oven element again connecting one probe to the metalwork and the other to the electrical connector and pressed test once more you can see a reading of 7.6 Meg ohms. Now the reading I am getting here is over a thousand Meg ohms therefore there is no resistance within the component and the component is fine.

Still nothing? The pump may be broken and need replacing or you could have an electrical fault. A technician can help with this. If your washing machine has a leak, it is likely to trip the fuse, RCD or breaker at some point. If this happens, you could dismantle the machine and look for water traces or call in an expert. Clues To What Part Is FaultyThis replacement heater also includes the NTC a resistor that changes its electrical resistance at varying temperatures. A NTC is used in the washing machine as a thermostat or temperature sensitive safety cut out device. If the NTC has gone faulty it could cause the machine to not give any temperature readings or give incorrect ones. If it no longer registers any temperature change the washing machine could overheat. What I have in front of me is a range of elements. We have a grill element, a dishwasher element, two washing machine elements and a fan oven element. None of the methods listed above can confirm a faulty heating element on their own. However, some combination of them may give you an idea. The only way to know for sure is to throw a data logger in the machine and read the temperature that the water is reaching on a wash cycle. Anything else without testing components for failure is pretty much just guesswork.

If the wash cycle continues indefinitely, this may be an indication that the heating element is faulty. If your washing machine spends more of its life being repaired than it does washing clothes, it might be time to buy a new one. This brings us nicely onto a pretty common set or problems that we mentioned earlier, complaints about wash results and the user suspecting that this is down to a fault with the heater. Some washing machines heat their own water while others draw it from the hot water source. You’ll be able to tell the difference if you have one or two pipes supplying your washing machine. Introducing the eSpares Limescale & Detergent Remover - where by using this you can help protect from this, as well as removing bad odours and bacteria build-up.

A burning smell coming from your washing machine can indicate a potentially dangerous situation. Immediately turn off the machine and unplug it. There are 5 areas which are likely to be the cause of a washing machine fusing your electrics which are; It's also important to note that just because you cannot feel the heat through the washing machine it doesn't mean the water isn't hot, as most machines are insulated. If the clothes are being effectively cleaned and there's no error code, then the heating is probably fine. Smelly washing machine Why does my washing machine smell? Our opinion is that this is a bit of a sham at best, a total deceit at worst and is probably there to make the energy rating label look wonderful. The reality being that sure, it uses less energy but it will never hit the temperature that the user thinks it will. If it only trips on the spin cycle; It could be a faulty capacitor, or a bare wire which only shorts when the machine is causing the drum to bounce around, this could only happen every now and then and not on every wash program.

If your washing machine is kept in a cold, damp room like a garage, outdoor building, shed or conservatory it is more likely to trip the fuse. As you know, electricity and water don’t mix and the damp air from the outbuilding can get into the appliance. If the culprit still can't be found, you run the risk of it slipping between the rubber seal and the metal drum and fall into the surrounding plastic tub. Items that don't get washed down into the filter can be flung about violently by the drum's rotation, especially during the spin cycle. Many modern machines have the likes of a 40˚C cotton wash indicated on the panel but that’s not actually what it is. What it is really is a program that the manufacturer has deemed to be an equivalent program for that HLCC wash code that satisfies the requirement of that wash label.
