clothes but extending to various environments, such as kitchens, bedrooms, classrooms, and other critical plot locations where the story unfolds in all Paramount releases Scream to the UHD with a very strong 2160p/Dolby Vision UHD release. While I did not review, nor have access to, the Second time around does this new iteration of the Scream franchise no favours at all, with this just released 4K disc from Paramount going out of its way to remind you exactly what’s so wrong with the film itself...

Scream 2 slashes onto the 4K Ultra HD format where it’s shown with a 2.35 widescreen aspect ratio and given a 2160p high-definition transfer. This one looks fairly good in 4K however nothing I’d call incredible, albeit an okay upgrade over the previous Blu-ray versions. Detail is sharp and well defined especially on close-ups while colors appear nicely balanced. On the negative side, I did notice some jittering on some of the motion shots, especially the more distant ones. Cutting straight to the chase, the new 4K image for Scream 2 is every bit as impressive as that of the 4K release of the first film. Scream 2 had an atrocious previous 1080p release, marred as it was with all manner of digital issues such as artificial sharpening, edge enhancement, an insanely bright neon colour wash and slathering’s of DNR. This new 4K release scrubs all of that away and lets the true filmic image underneath really shine… As with the first Scream 4K release, this disc gives us Scream 2 as it always should have looked and shows how far home video has now come. Hopefully gone are the days of artificially manipulating the image to what studios think audiences want to see and if 4K does nothing else but give us film as it simply looked (or as close to as possible in the digital world) in the cinema, then long may it reign supreme in the home video market. A stellar 4K re-release.

Scream: Other Editions

Plot: What’s it about? Video: How does it look? Audio: How does it sound? Supplements: What are the extras? The Bottom Line Plot: What’s it about? The Dolby Vision color grading does not push tones to the extreme, but natural greens are appropriately deep and vibrant, as is a yellow school bus, Whilst only maybe film nerds knew the rules of a horror movie when the first Scream came out, a year later when this sequel hit cinemas, everyone knew the rules of being a ‘sequel’… bigger, more excessive and just worse. These weren’t just rules, these were recognisable facts in all but the hardiest of cases (Jim Cameron notwithstanding).

Note that Paramount has also released 'Scream' to remastered Blu-ray. That disc is not included in this set. the new 4K image for Scream 2 is every bit as impressive as that of the 4K release of the first film

Scream (2022) 4K Video

The subwoofer is given some clean, tightly calibrated low-end work to play with, from the killer pounding on some glass at 1:22:53, to the score, which when ramped up, gives off some solid range on both ends. The music wraps-around effectively, or at least as strongly as the theater crowd in the opening scene. They scream, yell, and holler with the best of them, this DTS-HD mix capturing the world’s most annoying theater to perfection. Extras Sure, contrast is well-balanced and bright, giving the picture an attractive cinematic pop, but there are also many scenes showing distracting noise and slightly poor resolution. Fine object and textural details are fairly stable, with some great clarity and strong definition, especially in close-ups, but this is equaled with several instances of softness and a bit of mushiness in trees from a distance. The biggest culprit is the same which plagued the first movie — edge enhancement that ranges from very minor to annoyingly obvious. Scream 2' arrives in pretty much the same condition as its predecessor, meaning the studio should have remastered the horror series before releasing onto the high-def format. Featurette– A short, seven minute featurette is shown with interviews “talking heads” that talk about the sequel, the film as a whole and so on. Meh. Having said all that, for every individual element of the image that is really solid, it never quite stands out as a top tier 4K image. There’s no searing bright HDR highlights, no mega-saturated colours to tantalise the eyeballs with, almost nothing to get that excited about whatsoever from a purely visual standpoint. Through no fault of its own, the image’s own sense of realism means we almost overlook how good it really is.

eye, and the one on the right is focused on the right eye. The girl on the left has a brown eye, the girl on the right a blue eye, providing the only color the midpoint, center, and in white, with a red "2" scrawled over it. The rear panel is similarly bleak in color. A bloody knife fills the bottom third. The top
