I'm assuming this is a bad pressing but it sad such lack of quality would happen on such an iconic album. Over its 40 years in business, PIAS has grown to be one of the largest independently-owned music groups in the world, carving out its own in-house recorded music division PIAS [Recordings].

Overtime, and especially with a better turntable, I've noticed the sound on this release is somewhat muffled. Never understood what the fuzz was all about with this album but through this mastering I totally get it. Comprised of various labels we know and love at Rough Trade (Bella Union, ATO, Speedy Wunderground, Phantasy, Heavenly, Mute and more) PIAS [Recordings] filter through some of the most diverse artistry to our racks, which we greatly enjoy digging into. Overall I’d say you can’t go wrong with either but this latest repress sounds fantastic, go grab it!

Catalogue number written without a space on the sleeve and on lyric foldout insert issued with some early releases. Recorded at Hive Mind Studios in Brooklyn, NY, with the help of producer/arrangers Mike Buckley and Vincent Chiarito (both members of Charles Bradley's Extraordinaires) and crack team of a-list musicians, his upcoming album blends heavy arrangements and introspective lyrics with sophistication, leaving the listener in a blissful wash of wonderment. I'm not super into it with my setup at least, but curious to hear what other's experiences are with it. His full length debut on Daptone Records is equal parts raw feeling and elegance and exudes confidence and charm. I finally snagged a copy today and it’s a flawless pressing as far as playback (no cracks or pops) and the overall mix/volume is spot on. Some surface noise in between tracks and some quiet parts even after hitting it with an antistatic gun. Now with a massively successful US tour opening for sweet soul darlings Thee Sacred Souls behind him, 2023 is sure to be a propitious year for Daptone's newest signee. I have to agree with MollieBrower, in fact used that review to kick me over the edge on giving it a shot.
