We did expect House of the Dragon to take around four months, but it turns out that is not going to be the case. It could, therefore, feature plenty of the same surviving characters and revive any outstanding plot lines left hanging in the air after Jon Snow - spoiler alert - was sent back to the Night's Watch for killing Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

Among the various people with plans for life after Viserys are his wicked brother Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), his determined daughter Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy, Milly Alcock), the shrewd Hand of the King himself Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), and the Hand's daughter, the comely Lady Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke, Emily Carey). Acting is across the board impressive, excellent cinematography and the very atmospheric soundtrack are brought together extremely well. A first-look trailer was finally released in October 2021, soundtracked to a slow version of the classic Game of Thrones theme but introducing a host of new characters and story ideas, including a different design of the Iron Throne. She is based in Upstate New York and has written thousands of articles -- including news, how-tos, explainers, and reviews on technology and even TV and entertainment-focused content.Way back when, HBO was looking at five spin-offs to redeem the damage done by Game of Thrones season eight – and while House of the Dragon is the first, its viewing figures and rave reviews suggest it won't be the last. Whether House of the Dragon will have more nods toward Nymeria remains to be seen, but with the first episode being packed with Easter eggs and even a prophecy of the Night King, you'd better read up on your A Song of Ice and Fire lore. Interestingly, the Martell name should really be 'House Nymeros Martell' as a merger of the two, but it's never been mentioned in the shows and is rarely referenced in the books. To ensure she wouldn't lose her followers again, she burned all her ships and trapped her people on Dorne.

Details surrounding this latest offshoot don't yet appear to be fleshed out, with no members of the creative team rumoured at this point. but instead she rose to become the most trusted -- and most unlikely -- ally of Prince Daemon Targaryen, the heir to the throne.

While HBO cancelled the Naomi Watts-led The Long Night before it even aired, the latest series is a little closet to the main Thrones timeline — some 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen. The events of "House of the Dragon" lead up to the Targaryen Civil War of Succession, known as the Dance of the Dragons. At the opening of the series, King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) sits upon the Iron Throne, but it’s not long before the family begin to tear themselves apart over the question of who should succeed him.

Fire reigns in House of the Dragon as the first Game of Thrones spin-off has finally hit the airwaves. It's separate from the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series, which is the basis for the original series.

HBO is also developing a Game of Thrones sequel series that will focus on the continued adventures of Jon Snow. The following main House of the Dragon cast members have been confirmed for the Game of Thrones prequel. While House of the Dragon is a prequel focusing on the 300-year rule of the Targaryen family, a Jon Snow sequel would seemingly be set not too far past the ending of Game of Thrones.

With over 100 interviews, the series provides four and a half hours of exclusive behind-the-scenes content, documenting the cast and crew’s 10-month-long production journey across four countries.
