The story is about a young girl named Coraline who moves with her family to a small town and discovers a parallel universe behind a secret door in their new house. The caveat here is that while the alternate universe is quite fun and zany, there's a sinister and evil entity lurking in the shadows that causes Coraline to come to terms with her lot in life and make amends with her family. Still, after more than a decade, this film is sweet, charming, and haunting and leaves some lasting visuals that will no doubt conjure up some nightmares. Coraline delivers a brand new 2160p UHD 4K transfer with Dolby Vision HDR and it looks the best it ever has. Since Shout Factory and Laika started doing business together, these amazing collector editions have been out of this world, and Coraline is no different with this impressive steelbook. The SteelBook™ releases feature new hand drawn art from auteur illustrators carefully selected to newly represent the films while keeping their original spirit alive. Known for creating bold and vibrant illustrations, Cancun-based illustrator and Art Director Cesar Moreno created the art for Coraline, and the ParaNorman cover art was drawn by Kevin Tong, an artist living and working out of Austin, TX. Teri Hatcher is outstanding in the role – especially in regards to voicing the "other mother" to Coraline. Hatcher provides the accompaniment to the unique animation. Kozachik imbues the film with the right amount of creativity for the cinematographic elements to unfold. In the comedy thriller, a small town comes under siege by zombies. Who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy Norman, who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst of all, grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse. But this young ghoul-whisperer bravely summons up all that makes a hero – courage and compassion – as he finds his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.

Feature-Length Storyboards (94:02) – much like Shout Factory/GKIDS editions of their Studio Ghibli films they have smartly included the storyboard version of the film. As “animatics” have become a vital part of the animation process this is an essential inclusion, especially for anyone interested in any form of animation including stop-motion. It’s a great way to compare the finished product and how much character and subtly the animators place into the completed animation. The Final Thought ParaNorman proved to be another hit for LAIKA and broke new ground on several fronts, the first being within the craft of stop-motion animation. By using a rapid prototype 3D-printer, it produced color faces for the character puppets which have a softer, more real looking skin tone while the puppets themselves moved more freely, pushing this artform forward. The film’s social significance also surprised audiences upon its release in 2012 by featuring the first openly gay character in a mainstream animated film. ParaNorman deservedly had the distinction of being nominated for the Best Animated Feature Oscar.
