Teaching Ideas and Resources:

Birthday party hats make a great base for this craft. Once the party guests have colored their monsters, the heads and bodies should be cut out separately. Let’s explore colour some more through messy play! The children might like to experiment with paint or water and food dye by mixing colours to see what new colours they can make. What colours can they create and what feelings do they link with their new colours? This feelings monster worksheet is ideal for use during an 'All About Me' or 'ourselves' topic to encourage children to develop an understanding of feelings and emotions. When the monster is colored and cut out, position it behind the triangle with its eyes showing through. Two pipe cleaners should then be pushed into the bottom of the cube, and the remaining parts fashioned into spirals to create hilarious legs.

This book is a wonderful story about a “Color Monster” who is full of mixed up colors and emotions. A little girl takes the monster by the hand and gently helps the Color Monster untangle and separate out all of these feelings and put them into jars.
