About this deal

Like the other Treasures of Ruin, Chien-Pao's true form is that of the broken sword forming its fangs, having been given life by the hatred of people slain by those who wielded it long ago — while its body is a form it has constructed using its control over ice and snow. Chien-Pao is described as being able to control 100 tons of fallen snow, causing avalanches and playing around in them innocently. It is known as the Sword of Ruin. Italic indicates a move that gets STAB only when used by an evolution or an alternate form of Chien-Pao Start accelerating energies onto your Pokemon via a combination of Baxcalibur’s Super Cold ability and Chien-Pao Silvery Chill ability. Escape Rope BST 125: your opponent will choose a Pokémon from the bench which will be moved to the Active position, and, afterward, you'll do the same with your Pokémon. The opponent will be the first to swap (and, if there's no Pokémon on the bench to swap, they won't need to). Your go-to for energy retrieving is Chien-Pao ex. It allows you to search for 2 energy and constantly load your hand. Get Chien-Pao ex into the active spot to accelerate energy in your hand.

This article is part of Project TCG, a Bulbapedia project that aims to report on every aspect of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Additionally, the stadium card PokeStop plays a vital role in locating and utilizing Superior Energy Retrieval. Once you’ve found and evolved essential Pokemon like Baxcalibur or Bibarel, activate the PokeStop stadium ability. With Chien-Pao ex on your bench, loaded with ability cards, search for valuable items and ensure Superior Energy Retrieval is readily available when you have four energy cards in your discard pile. How to Play Chien-Pao ex Chien-Pao and the other Treasures of Ruin may be based on the Four Perils of Chinese mythology. Specifically, Chien-Pao may be based on 窮奇 / 穷奇 Qióngqí, a vicious tiger-like creature that was later identified as the prototype of kamaitachi in Japanese folklore, hence Chien-Pao's similar stats and typing to Weavile. It may also be partly inspired by the 檮杌 / 梼杌 Táowù, another of the Four Perils known for its large tusks as well as having a genus of saber-toothed cats named after it.On turn one, aim for Nest Ball, Battle VIP Pass, and/or Ultra Ball. Your goal is to locate and put Chien-Pao ex into play first. Second, locate Frigibax, a Rare Candy, and Baxcalibur. This will allow you to evolve on the second turn and start loading Chien-Pao ex with energy. Bold indicates a main expansion. Italics indicate a special set. Releases that are entirely composed of prints from other releases are small. In the anime Major appearances Minor appearances In the manga In the TCG Main article: Chien-Pao (TCG) Game data Pokédex entries This Pokémon was unavailable prior to Generation IX. When using damage cards, you must discard energy. This becomes important later in the game, especially when holding on to and making use of both Super Rod and Superior Energy Retrieval. These two cards, later in games, make the difference to keep firing off damage with Chien-Pao ex. Rarely, if ever, discard them. Baxcalibur

To draw cards, Radiant Greninja is a staple in Pokémon Standard gameplay. It allows you to discard to draw a card, making it a must-have for weak hands with limited cards. However, don’t overdo it by drawing; you want to keep mostly energy in your hand. Ultra Ball sv1 196 is useful to look for any Pokémon, evolution or basic, common or ultra-rare, as long as you fulfil the requirement of discarding two cards in your hand to play it. This list was originally posted at the beginning of the Paldea Evolved format, but I've updated for Obsidian Flames since it's still getting views. The original writeup from Paldea Evolved is below.

Use Irida into Earthen Vessel into your lightning energy for a manual attachment to Iron Hands ex while using Baxcalibur to accelerate water energies. Iron Hands ex is a huge boon to Chien-Pao ex. In France, an oversized version of this card featuring the Paldea Evolved expansion logo was given out at retailers to promote the release of the set. Chien-Pao and the other Treasures of Ruin are the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Ruination. Chien-Pao is also the only known Pokémon that can have Sword of Ruin as an Ability. Chien-Pao and the other Treasures of Ruin are the first Pokémon whose base stats were adjusted via a patch to the game. Path to the Peak is an incredibly strong card in the format right now, thanks to its ability to shut down all abilities.

Put up to 4 Basic Energy cards from your discard pile into your hand. (You can’t choose a card you discarded with the effect of this card.) Super Cold: As often as you like during your turn, you may attach a Basic Water Energy card from your hand to 1 of your Pokémon. The hatred of those who perished by the sword long ago has clad itself in snow and become a Pokémon. Chien-Pao is one of the only Ice-type Pokémon, the other ones being Snom and Frost Rotom, to not be able to learn Ice Beam. As the game progresses, Irida can help you find more Chien-Pao ex for the bench or Superior Energy Retrieval. Additionally, you’ll want to find and evolve Bibarel. Its ability allows you to draw until you have five cards in your hand, keeping your hand full. Radiant GreninjaWhen this card becomes expendable after the first turn of your turn to play, it will be an excellent tribute with the use of Superior Energy Retrieval sv2 189, which demands you discard two cards from hand to have its effect. This Pokémon can control 100 tons of fallen snow. It plays around innocently by leaping in and out of avalanches it has caused. If Miracle Eye is used by an opponent or this Pokémon is given a Ring Target, the effectiveness of Psychic-type moves is 1×.

Chien-Pao may be based on nimravids such as Dinictis and Hoplophoneus, saber-toothed predators with elongated bodies closely related to felids. It also may be inspired by snow leopards and the prehistoric Smilodon, one of the most well-known true saber-toothed cats. The pieces of a sword that it uses as fangs may have been inspired by bronze swords, particularly the jian (double-edged straight sword); and they may make Chien-Pao a literal interpretation of a "saber-toothed cat".Chien-Pao is heavily reliant on abilities. While Baxcalibur may not be impacted by Path, Chien-Pao is, making it hard to get those energies into your hand to accelerate onto your Pokemon.
