Double-blinded randomised placebo controlled trial of - Gut

Since eligibility was assessed according to the current Rome IV criteria, the applicability of our findings to the estimated 50% of patients with IBS not matching the Rome IV criteria, 34 including those with milder pain, is not known. We may, however, have mitigated for these patients by recruiting a proportion of cases directly from the community setting and when we reduced the eligibility abdominal pain score at screening to lower screening failures. In adults, it is advisable to consume ORS during the treatment with Enterosgel to assure proper rehydration. Take the necessary dose of ENTEROSGEL® after the first loose stool. Take ENTEROSGEL® at least 2 hours before or after taking oral medications. Take ENTEROSGEL® at least 1–2 hours before or after meal. Dilute the dose in the water of room temperature before its administration. Use sachet immediately after opening.Across millions of doses, no serious side effects have occurred when taking Enterosgel. Some people have reported constipation, but this is easily avoided by drinking enough water. Blinding: This study was also “double-blinded”. This means that both the patients and the doctors did not know if the treatment or the placebo was given. This was done so that the test results were not affected by patients and doctors knowing which group they were in, placebo or Enterosgel. Chief Investigator Professor Yan Yiannakou, Clinical Director of the NIHR Patient Recruitment Centre: Newcastle, said: “This study is certainly the UK’s first virtual trial for IBS patients, and one of the UK’s first virtual trials of an interventional therapy. It is a pathfinder for delivery of clinical trials and may help start a revolution in the way we run clinical trials post COVID-19. IBS – Enterosgel can normalise stool frequency and provide relief from constipation, one of the issues associated with irritable bowel symptom. The Microflora is paramount when it comes to gut health and Enterosgel helps to regulate and protect it. This study aims to recruit 430 adult participants with IBS-D, from approximately 30 medical practices and outpatient clinics in the UK. The goal is to investigate whether Enterosgel® can improve IBS-D symptoms, including diarrhoea and abdominal pain, and is well-tolerated. The study will also investigate the impact of Enterosgel® on the quality of life, work productivity and activity and general health, and evaluate whether Enterosgel® has long-term effects. The study will involve four visits and one phone call over 26 weeks. During the study, the participants will complete questionnaires related to IBS and general health, and a daily study diary over 18 weeks. In the first treatment phase, half of the patients will receive Enterosgel® and half will receive a placebo for 8 weeks. In the second treatment phase, all patients will receive Enterosgel® for 8 weeks.

Enterosgel for the treatment of adults with acute diarrhoea Enterosgel for the treatment of adults with acute diarrhoea

This was a randomised, controlled, multicentre pragmatic study to assess efficacy, tolerability and safety of Enterosgel in the treatment of acute diarrhoea in adults compared with standard care. In line with many medical device studies, the use of a placebo is rare, most studies compare to approved therapies. The specific gel-like formulation and organoleptic properties of Enterosgel are difficult to simulate in a placebo, which is both safe and has no impact on the study outcomes. Hence, this was a pragmatic study utilising patient-reported outcomes compared with NICE guidance standard of care. If your life is ruled by irritable bowel syndrome, or other conditions that cause diarrhoea, you may find Enterosgel can transform your ability to take part in normal daily activities. How were patients involved in the study design: Patients were involved at all stages of the study. They helped in the following: In case of long-term diarrhoea it is advisable to consult a doctor to obtain the diagnose of the underlining condition before taking Enterosgel. Every year several million people in the UK suffer from intestinal infections resulting in acute diarrhoea and other symptoms (i.e. vomiting, nausea). The symptoms usually resolve within a few days, but can be unpleasant. Antidiarrheal medications can slow down the bowel movements, but there is a need for treatments which could reduce the duration of diarrhoea and other symptoms and be used in both children and adults. \n\nIn some European countries, intestinal adsorbents are commonly used for treating diarrhoea. One of these products is Enterosgel®, which is available over-the-counter in the UK and has been reported to adsorb and remove harmful substances like bacterial toxins and allergens from the gut. However, there is limited data in peer-reviewed journals on its efficacy in reducing the duration of diarrhoea and other symptoms associated with intestinal infections. The purpose of this study is therefore to collect more data about the potential benefits of using Enterosgel® in the treatment of acute diarrhoea and associated symptoms. \n\nThis will be a randomised controlled trial in 104 patients recruited from medical practices in England. 52 patients will receive Enterosgel® in addition to standard rehydration treatment and 52 patients will be in the control group and receive only standard rehydration treatment without Enterosgel®.\n\nDuration of the study is 1 week and it will involve attending one study visit at the medical practice, followed by phone calls with the research nurse every morning for the next 7 days. The visit will involve confirmation of eligibility, informed consent and assessment of symptoms and relevant disease history. Patients will also be asked to provide a stool sample and to keep a daily diary about their symptoms and manifestations and use of treatments.\n\nThe study is funded by Bioline Products s.r.o., who are the manufacturer of Enterosgel®. In the beginning of the treatment (on day 1) you can double the first dose and then continue with a single dose after each bowel movement. Maximum 8 doses on the first day. No, Enterosgel is classified as a medical device and has a CE certificate for use in Europe. It is a medical device and not a medicine as Enterosgel is not absorbed into the bloodstream from the gut but travels along the inside of the gut before it is completely excreted with the stools. Enterosgel does not cause any systemic side effects.
