Meta Title & Keywords - How important?

In admin, just how important is the Meta Title & Keywords in 2013 and does someone know a guide online as to the best way of inputting this information?

Yes these are still really important and you should make sure you put some effort into creating these.

Magento does a reasonable job of generating title tags based on your product names so as long as you are naming your products well then this will follow through on the meta titles.

My question relates to Admin data input.

You've stated that meta data is still considered important and that's good enough for me.

I just need now to find out the accepted or and best way of inputting this information, individual words or short descriptions. I sell broadcasting equipment to radio stations.

So, for say a 100 Watt FM Stereo broadcast transmitter, I could use words such as, high performance at low cost FM stereo transmitter or simply FM transmitter, however the latter if used on Google would probably bring up 1,001 mini FM transmitters used with the iPod etc in your car which has nothing to do with professional broadcasting.

Any pointers or links to correct generations of keywords & titles?

Hi David

You need to think about which pages you want to rank for what keywords

Product pages should rank for people searching for specific products, so the MPN and product name should be sufficient

Your category pages are more likely to be where you would target more generic phrases related to specific product types

For very competitive phrases you might consider making content rich "landing pages" that target specific key phrases that you know people are searching for
