About this deal

The other tip was from a friend called Amos, a man all too familiar with midnight pasta. While the spaghetti is boiling in well-salted water, add a ladleful of cooking liquid and a proper pinch of salt to the garlic oil, swirling and sloshing it with a spoon before you tip in the spaghetti, then swish it around again. These two steps mean the oil is seasoned and the starch from the pasta and oil comes together into a cream-like consistency, which means the spaghetti, slippy and glistening, almost winds itself around the fork. Spaghetti aglio, olio e peperoncino – midnight spaghetti Glorious! I think this is Ross Montgomery’s best book an adventure across WWII wintry Britain with a Kindertransportee, a boy dressed in shorts and his three imaginary friends. A joy of a joy of a thing .” Katherine Rundell

Midnight Mass review: blood-soaked horror - The Guardian Midnight Mass review: blood-soaked horror - The Guardian

In December last year, ÖBB, the German rail company Deutsche Bahn, SNCF and Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) announced the signing of an agreement to launch new night train services in Europe. This is the first step in developing the Trans-Europe Express (TEE) 2.0 network, proposed by the German presidency of the Council of the European Union. This partnership plans to launch four new services to 13 of Europe’s largest cities in the coming years. It is a recipe that manages to be both very specific – just spaghetti, garlic, oil and chilli – and absolutely non-specific, a broad-sweeping brushstroke, an idea rather than a recipe. In this fourth installment in the series, Keira and her friends race against time to rescue her charge before The Harvest. They must hurry. Their enemies are bringing forth a new force to sway the balance toward evil. The shadows are rising.Completed stories: Midnight Guardian, Trials of a Champion, Burden of a Destiny, Power of Hogwarts, Rise of the Protector, Unknown Relations: The Philosopher's Stone, Unknown Relations: The Chamber of Secrets, and Unknown Relations: Dementors of Azkaban. The book is like two plots that interweave themselves into one story. You have the friends and their travels to London and the adventures that happen along the way. Then there is the nasty Mid-Winter King who wants power no matter how he gets it or what pain and mayhem he causes to get it, including banishing The Green Man so that he can rule all year round. This is a streamlined novel; no side plots, no broad cast of characters, no twists of fantasy for the sheer joy of it. While the concept does fly high, it also flies straight. For those readers who might be put off by speculative fiction, The Midnight Library is a charming way into the genre. Thirdly, even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, you’d still enjoy this book still because Christmas is not the main focus. It’s rather a setting for time and more of like a culture rather than a religious matter.

Beautifully drawn fantasy characters ... a story of hope and love underpinned by witty humour.” Daily Mail This book touch my deep emotion. I laugh, I cried, I smile with it. It brings me warmth and gosh! The guardians made me so emotional. I love them SO SO MUCH! I loved all of the characters so much! Col, with his stubborn determination and bravery, the Guardians and their love for Col, and Ruth: a Jewish girl from Germany, who helps Col along the way. Their friendship was one of the most heartwarming things I’ve ever read about, and their journey to save Rose—the kindness and hope they show to everyone they meet—made this book so special. I also loved learning more about Chanukah and the lesson it teaches: that a little light can sometimes be enough to defeat even the most terrifying darkness. Stories in progress: Midnight Series (deleted scenes), Bedtime Stories, Unknown Relations: Goblet of Fire and Hayden's Journal.

His fears were unfounded. Canongate rescued him. He realised the key was to write for himself and not worry about critical expectations or the division between literary and commercial fiction. The Humans gave him confidence and confirmed his new publisher’s faith in him; Reasons to Stay Alive, which was derived from a blog he wrote in 2014, established him firmly in the public mind as a teller of stories and an open, uninhibited, ego-free chaperone through the maelstrom of life. The company is funded by French entrepreneurs, including the telecoms billionaire Xavier Niel, co-owner of Le Monde newspaper. This book has quite a few older myths, folklore and fairytales rolled into it. But we're talking about fairies that are terribly ugly little grievances to the world, not Tinkerbell. Despite its door-stopper density, Midnight Sun does not amplify the original novel. At times, it even undermines it. The whole appeal of a vampire-boyfriend is that he is deadly and undead, but Midnight Sun just exposes how toothless Edward really is. Meyer has described him as an anxious character, and says that writing him exacerbated her own anxiety – one of the reasons Midnight Sun was a “huge, pain in the butt book to write … Every single word was a struggle.” Why, then, are there so many of them?
