About this deal

Many people prefer to use an indwelling catheter because it's more convenient and avoids the repeated insertions needed with intermittent catheters. However, indwelling catheters are more likely to cause problems such as infections. Soft silicone inlet tubes are anti kink and resistant to bacterial biofilm colonisation compared to PVC used by other manufacturers of drainage bags.

You should be taught how to insert the catheter yourself. It's usually inserted into your bladder through the urethra (the tube that carries urine out of your body). One end of the catheter is either left open-ended, to allow drainage into a toilet, or attached to a bag to collect the urine. The other end is guided through your urethra until it enters your bladder and urine starts to flow. Hopefull you'll have the opportunity to practice bag emptying drills during your hospital stay, perhaps with your other half. I found this invaluable as bending down was difficult in the first few days. An indwelling catheter can either drain into a bag attached to your leg, which has a tap at the bottom so it can be emptied, or it can be emptied into the toilet directly, using a valve. It isn't recommended that you swap incontinence pads for sanitary pads. It's a shame, as they are usually cheaper! But the technology behind them isn't quite the same and can leave you with sore, irritated skin. Are incontinence pads available on prescription?

A urinary catheter is usually used when people have difficulty peeing (urinating) naturally. It can also be used to empty the bladder before or after surgery and to help perform certain tests.Don't get constipation passing a hard motion past you newly stitched urethra is not the best thing to do.

You might be able to qualify for incontinence pads, pants or hand-held urinals on prescription, but it will depend on your local NHS. Patient with stomas have the option of wearing the bag on their thigh so it is clear of stoma pouches. Living with a catheter can be challenging. You may find it useful to get more information and advice from support groups and other organisations. Inserting either type of catheter can be uncomfortable, so anaesthetic gel may be used on the area to reduce any pain. You may also experience some discomfort while the catheter is in place, but most people with a long-term catheter get used to this over time.At night, you'll need to attach a larger bag. Your night bag should either be attached to your leg bag or to the catheter valve. It should be placed on a stand next to your bed, near the floor, to collect urine as you sleep. Single-use night bags are usually used to reduce the risk of infection. SoftStretch Waistband in Indigo w/ mild compression for Ostomy, Surgery Recover, Feeding Tube, Catheter, Feeding Tube, Maternity The catheter itself will need to be removed and replaced at least every 3 months. This is usually done by a doctor or nurse, although sometimes it may be possible to teach you or your carer to do it. indwelling catheters – these remain in place for many days or weeks, and are held in position by an inflated balloon in the bladder We recommend people are first assisted to choose the Nexus drainage system that is right for them with the help of a qualified Healthcare Professional.

A related question - for the night catheter - will I need to cut a hole in my pyjamma bottoms to let the pipe out?Keep collections to yourself or inspire other shoppers! Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places. I found putting underwear on/off was more painful to the surrounding areas, therefore I just wore joggers whilst the catheter was in. You will get to know what's comfortable fairly soon after the op.
