Live Caption, first shown off at Google IO 2019, is one of these new perks heading to the previous generation: if you’re playing any video or spoken audio (aside from phone and video calls, per Google), you can tap the screen to bring up the volume slider with a new keyboard button below - tap the latter to activate Live Caption, and voila, the content will have captions. The timer is good for snapping shots, particularly group selfies automatically, as it gives you a few seconds to get the perfect angle. Motion captures several frames before and after you snap a shot, like a short video. It’s set to Auto by default, but you may want to turn it on all the time. We’ll look at why in the Top Shot section below.There is, however, a massive notch containing the dual selfie camera and speaker. Aesthetic debates aside, it’s important to note that because the notch is so tall it takes up a big chunk of the screen at the top, with the area either side exclusively being used for the status bar.
