About this deal

The smartphone app is well designed, well thought out, easy and intuitive to use, and in my experience so far, has a stable connection, unlike many offerings in the BBQ world that tend to suffer occasional disconnection. You can preset minimum and maximum temperatures for each probe or use the handy presets. You’ll get an alerted if the temperature goes outside that range. Functionality and Features

The app has six preset temperatures for all types of meats plus nine presets for game meats like moose, elk, and buffalo. You can customize the temperatures for anything you cook and set four different timers. The unit is rainproof so that you can use indoors or outdoors. If you live in a 100 unit apartment building with many competing smart devices then that might be another story. Mobile App The probe attaches inside the grill or inserts into the meat. It sends the temperature information through the cable into the transmitter, which sends a signal to a receiver, usually your cell phone.Thermoworks, the makers of the incredibly popular instant-read Thermapen thermometer, also have a very popular grilling thermometer that can handle multiple types of meat, plus air temperature, all at the same time. It’s great for the grill, the smoker, and the oven, so it will get plenty of use all year long—a factor that can help justify the higher price tag. It performed well in testing and had one of the more standout and easy-to-use designs. Boiling water should measure close to 212 °F at sea level. As can be seen in the image below, the Signals measured 221.8 and 212.2 °F for a pit probe and food probe, respectively.

Tenergy Solis Digital Meat Thermometer, APP Controlled Wireless Bluetooth Smart BBQ Thermometer w/ 6 Stainless Steel Probes, Large LCD Display, Carrying Case, Cooking Thermometer for Grill & Smoker If you’re more of a flexitarian than a carnivore, or love to experiment with food, you’ll want a thermometer that does more than meat. Enter Salter’s Leave-In Digital Kitchen Thermometer. Thanks to its clever design, it’s as handy for sitting in a joint of meat as it cooks in the oven, as it is for jam-making, barbecuing, grilling and even deep frying. The digital unit sits outside the oven or pan and is connected to its probe by a metre-long cable. Only 2.5cm of the probe needs to be inserted, making it suitable for burgers and bangers as well as larger pieces of meat. There’s a clip and magnets, too, so it can attach to the side of a pan, barbecue or deep fat fryer. One thing we would like is having an option to customize our timer, and we also found that the alarm settings were only audible through the app—there's no sound functionality on the device itself. This is a great option for anyone who is really into smart gadgets, offering a high-tech experience with a pretty accurate reading right in the palm of your hand.Meanwhile, the base unit also shows the information, so it’s simple to glance at it when the cook is near the grill. We particularly liked the design of the base, which was quite easy to read. The included color-coded probe rings make it easy to see which probe belongs to each temperature reading on the base. For cooks who don’t like apps, the base unit can easily be used without the app. This is available in multiple colors to match the décor or stand out from the crowd. With many different customizable features and historical graph capability, the mobile app more than makes up for the simplistic device’s design. The dual-sensor probe is very accurate at the food tip and somewhat accurate in the handle, where the ambient sensor resides. There are no cord winders for the probe cords. The ThermoPro TP-25 and the Tenergy Solis meat thermometers have cord winders that make storage easy. The InkBird just has twist ties. The Signals thermometer includes four probes—three are high-temperature cooking probes and the fourth is for measuring air temperature inside the grill or other cooking chamber. The app allows remote monitoring of the temperatures using both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, so there are no worries about getting out of range of the base. It recharges via a USB cable/power plug and can run while it's plugged in, which is great if there's a very long cook.

The ThermoWorks signals is a professional-grade thermometer that is as accurate and reliable as you will ever find. It is equally good for amateur pitmasters and the experts among you. The iGrill2 has four ports, but one is for a probe that measures only the ambient temperature of the grill. This probe comes with a clip, and the point is rounded, not pointed. So, you can still monitor three separate items, and for most people, this is enough. The ThermoWorks Signals can measure from 58 °F – 572 °F (-50 °C – 300 °C). The accuracy changes depending on what temperatures are being measured. ThermoWorks advertise the accuracy as: However, my one major gripe about this thermometer is what puts it behind the Inkbird thermometer in third place. The screen is hard to see at night. I have no problem seeing the Inkbird’s red digital screen at night from inside the house. Usability and Features of the Bluetooth Meat Themometer’s Smart app- Some meat thermometers have better apps than others. Some have virtually the same app (more on that in a bit). Many meat thermometers are actually designed to be left in the oven or grill and are resistant to fairly high temperatures. The best way to know is to read the specs and instructions of your chosen thermometer, ensuring that its materials are heat-resistant and can withstand long stints in the oven, smoker, or barbecue grill. If you have a music app going on your phone, the mobile app will interrupt it. This is easily remedied by pressing play again on your music app.

The best meat thermometers you can buy in 2023 1. Oxo Chef’s Precision Leave-In Meat Thermometer: Best analogue meat thermometer This NutriChef Bluetooth thermometer is an affordable option that has everything you might need for basic grilling and monitoring remotely. It connects to a smartphone app with an indoor range of 100 feet and an outdoor range of 200 feet. If you wander outside the range, you’ll get a push notification so you won’t accidentally go too far from the grill or oven. The stainless steel probes on the PWIRBBQ60 model can withstand up to 482 degrees, while the upgraded stainless steel cables can withstand up to 716 degrees. As with all meat thermometers with this kind of wired probes, we expect that the wires will eventually fail, which is why we appreciate the more modest price tag. NutriChef offers several other models in a similar price range as well. If you want to monitor up to six probes at a time (although it only comes with two), opt for the PWIRBBQ80 model.

Third Best: Inkbird IBT-4XS Bluetooth Meat Thermometer

Our Lab team has spent collective decades working in professional kitchens, developing recipes, and testing kitchen gear. We thoroughly tested this twice, and it's hard to find any faults. The two thermometers in one probe proved accurate at reading internal and external temperatures, while the app proved unique tones and a wide range of alarms. One issue was the Bluetooth range didn't hold up to the full range due to regular suburban obstructions, and once the signal was lost, it took a few extra beats for it to reconnect to the phone. The probes are curved with no silicone handles which make them easier to extract from food than some other meat thermometers. They are double-crimped where the handles attach to the cables. Typically, there is a readout display on the unit, so you can see the temperature if you’re next to it. By tapping the power button twice the screen will rotate around, notice the probes are coming from the top now.
