Ives, E. W. (1994). "Ann Boleyn and the early reformation in England: the contemporary evidence". The Historical Journal. 37 (2): 389–400. doi: 10.1017/S0018246X00016526. S2CID 162289756. Four of the accused men were tried in Westminster on 12 May 1536. Weston, Brereton and Norris publicly maintained their innocence and only Smeaton supported the Crown by pleading guilty. Three days later, Anne and George Boleyn were tried separately in the Tower of London, before a jury of 27 peers. She was accused of adultery, incest, and high treason. [147] By the Treason Act of Edward III, adultery on the part of a queen was a form of treason (because of the implications for the succession to the throne) for which the penalty was hanging, drawing and quartering for a man and burning alive for a woman, but the accusations, and especially that of incestuous adultery, were also designed to impugn her moral character. [ citation needed] The other form of treason alleged against her was that of plotting the king's death, with her "lovers", so that she might later marry Henry Norris. [145] Anne's one-time betrothed, Henry Percy, 6th Earl of Northumberland, sat on the jury that unanimously found Anne guilty. When the verdict was announced, he collapsed and had to be carried from the courtroom. [ citation needed] He died childless eight months later and was succeeded by his nephew. a b Sample, Ian (15 February 2015). "Possible Anne Boleyn portrait found using facial recognition software". Anne Boleyn was the Queen of England between 1533 and 1536 after she became the second wife to King Henry the 8th. She is a key figure in the political and religious upheaval that inspired the start of the English Reformation due to her execution for treason. She has also been the inspiration for many books and films.Licence, Amy (2017). "Anne's World 1501–6". Anne Boleyn Adultery, Heresy, Desire. Stroud, England: Amberley Publishing. Violence towards Ryan was not borne from a "flash of temper", but was sustained and horrific. Because of Anne's early exposure to court life, she had powerful influences around her for most of her life. These early influences were mostly women who were engaged with art, history and religion. Eric Ives described the women around Anne as "aristocratic women seeking spiritual fulfillment". [200] They included Queen Claude, of whose court Anne was a member, and Marguerite of Angoulême, who was a well-known figure during the Renaissance and held strong religious views that she expressed through poetry. These women along with Anne's immediate family members, such as her father, may have had a large influence on Anne's personal faith. The Offspring of Thomas and Elizabeth Boleyn". There were bruises to his skull, which had been inflicted by up to 10 individual blows. There were marks on his legs and grazes to his face. He had been grabbed forcibly around the jaw and slapped and punched.

In a letter dated 24 th June 1535, Sir William Kingston writes to Lord Lisle saying ” Her Grace has as fair a belly as I have ever seen” but we have no corroborating evidence and Sir John Dewhurst, who examines the obstetric histories of Anne Boleyn and Catherine of Aragon in his article “The Alleged Miscarriages of Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn”, wonders if the date of this letter should actually be 1533 or 1534 as it also refers to a man who died in October 1534. This could simply be more corroborating evidence for the 1534 pregnancy.

Before marrying Henry VIII, Anne had befriended Sir Thomas Wyatt, one of the greatest poets of the Tudor period. In 1520, Wyatt married Elizabeth Cobham, who by many accounts was not a wife of his choosing. [50] In 1525, Wyatt charged his wife with adultery and separated from her; coincidentally, historians believe that it was also the year when his interest in Anne intensified. In 1532, Wyatt accompanied the royal couple to Calais. [51] Bordo, Susan (2014). The Creation of Anne Boleyn A New Look at England's Most Notorious Queen. London: Oneworld Publications. Anne is believed to have given the King a book called "Obedience of a Christian man". This book argued that supreme authority was held by the words of God, dictated in the Bible and not the Pope. Anne Boleyn went to trial on May 15th 1536 where she calmly denied all accusations against her, but unfortunately four days later she was convicted by a court with a unanimous decision. King Henry used this as a means to dismiss Catherine of Aragon from court in 1531. Queen of England (1533-1536):
