By Neptune's beard - it's Neptune Rum! This is a blend of eight, five and three year aged golden rum distilled from pure sugar cane molasses at Foursquare Distillery on the island of Barbados. That blend was matured in American bourbon oak barrels before it filtered using a specific cold filtration process and diluted with soft spring water to its bottling strength of 40% ABV. Neptune Rum was only launched in 2017, yet it already boasts over 40 prestigious global awards. How did the brand do it? We find out. Aged in Bourbon oak casks for a distinctive vanilla edge, which interweaves with notes of apricot, banana, coconut, spice and honey. Then, Brigitte Lemaire, the daughter of Roger-Constant, married Gilles Tournant who proved to be a very talented young winegrower, and together, they continue to carry on the family tradition with their children Sebastien (head of international marketing and sales) and Guillaume (winemaker). The duo secured an audience with the well-respected, outspoken rum aficionado and fourth generation rum master at Foursquare Distillery, Richard Seale. Molloy described it as being akin to being in the headmaster’s office. However, according to Davies, Seale was “blown away by my blend”, while Molloy noted that Seale’s comment that Neptune had “made a bloody good rum out of my rum”. Seale agreed to work with them, with current production now standing at about 2,500 bottles every three months.
