About this deal

Besides having two proactive leads, the main characters in A Condition Called Love also communicate well and take things at an appropriate pace for their age. I really love their sweet, slow romance! They have lots of firsts together and overall it’s really cute! They slowly learn more about each over and grow closer as they move through each school semester.

Hotaru is a 16-year-old high school first-year who has always been ambivalent about love, preferring instead to have a lively life with her family and friends. So when she sees her schoolmate, Hananoi-kun, sitting in the snow after a messy, public breakup, she thinks nothing of offering to share her umbrella. But when he asks her out in the middle of her classroom the next day, she can't help but feel that her life is about to change in a big way … When we left off in the last volume, the couple had decided to date on a trial basis until Christmas, at which point they would end the relationship. (In case you are unaware, that is the Japanese equivalent of Valentines day.) Volume 2 starts out on Christmas with the heroine telling her potential beau that she would not be adverse to continuing to try this relationship thing (because despite the NUMEROUS red flags this dude gives off, it is also 100% believable that this inexperienced girl does not see any red flags. I do love the heroine.) Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: Hotaru's attentiveness and kindness are some of her most notable traits, though she isn't perfect and has her own past trauma she's trying to work through. Hananoi on the other hand doesn't seem to angst all of that much only because he's a perpetual Stepford Smiler who has buried his complexes so deep down it's hard for even those close to him to see. Doesn't change the fact that he's a loner by choice, Troubled, but Cute male lead. Grow Old with Me: After Hotaru has agreed to just trial date Hananoi and asks him what he would like, he responds that he would love it if they could be buried next to each other in the same grave.

Decon-Recon Switch: Of Dogged Nice Guy. Hananoi is determined to make the object of his affection fall for him and does so by exhibiting extreme selflessness, going out of his way to do whatever it takes to fulfill and conform to his partner's wishes (or what he thinks she wishes), at the cost of his own desires and interests. The manga shows how such a love is actually burdensome to the partner, and Hananoi goes through girlfriends like tissue papers as each one gets fed up with his overbearing form of love. One even shows up later on in the story to tell Hotaru how Hananoi became so controlling and possessive, she had to break up with him. That said, Hotaru is able to understand that Hananoi does mean well, even if he's misguided, and that his desire to see his partner be happy can be a positive thing if done in moderation. In fact, it is Hananoi's attentiveness that ultimately sways her feelings fully towards him. Ich werden definitiv mehr von Megumi Morino und der dritte Band dieser Reihe wird ebenfalls schnell gekauft, wenn er im August erscheint. Kodansha USA Publishing started publishing the manga in English digitally in 2020. The company published the manga's first volume physically in English on January 24, and the fourth volume on July 18. Kodansha USA Publishing describes the manga's story:

Holding Hands: One of the few things Hananoi tells Hotaru he wants to do with Hotaru in the beginning is to walk to school while holding hands. She happily obliges. It becomes clear with his parents being absent and other past experiences, Hananoi-kun is just looking to give all his love to someone who will accept it and not leave him! He definitely has a fear of being alone or left by those who love him, made clear by his sad memories of growing up alone, losing a friend, and his efforts to fill the hole in his heart through dating. Morino launched the manga in Kodansha's Monthly Dessert magazine in December 2017. Kodansha will publish the manga's 13th compiled book volume on June 13. The manga has over 3.8 million copies in circulation. The manga won the Best Shōjo Manga award in Kodansha's 45th Manga Awards in 2021. It is within this context that a peculiar encounter unfolds, forever altering the trajectory of her existence. Main character girls thoughts: I shall now choose a part time job based on what I think this guy likes.Hopeless Suitor: Yao realizes his feelings for Hotaru much too late as she is already in love with and dating Hananoi. He still wishes to be close to her (as friends) despite that.
