About this deal

I’ll let you be the judge. Here are some casual photos of me wearing the Skele-toes Voltage. Pay particular attention to the dorsiflexing; that’s some serious toe flex for a pair of marshmallow shoes! Fortunately, those of us with five toes can still wear them. It’s just that your two smallest toes will go in one slot – instead of two. Case in point, my wife actually remarked that they didn’t look that bad, which I had to ask her to repeat a couple times; apparently ,they sorta look like normal sneakers on first glance. Your mileage may vary, but as seen above with jeans they look pretty ok, no? The Hoka OneOne has less of a heal rise then these Voltage. So even though the Hokas have less ground feel I would consider it more minimalist then the Voltage.

Well, that’s my list of the best barefoot walking/jogging/running shoes I think you should consider in 2023. The reason I emphasize trail running is that these are REALLY heavy-duty shoes for “barefoot” options. They come with a serious amount of grip that’s great for going over rough terrain and a significant amount of rubber armor to keep your skin safe.Ahh … there’s not a ton to say here. My personal feelings are so clouded on the Voltage thanks to my general derision for marshmallow shoes — something I feel not because I find marshmallow shoes to be completely horrible, but because they’re marketed so loudly as “barefoot” when they’re hardly barefoot at all. My gut reaction to the Voltage was … revoltage! I couldn’t help it, sorry. Yet they really aren’t that ugly, if I can set aside my bias.

This popularity means that, every year, more and more of these running shoes hit the market, but that can actually make it harder for athletes to find their perfect pair. So, while this trendy footwear may appear unusual compared to modern running shoes with their numerous supports and features, going the barefoot route may have all kinds of other benefits. We have been told by shoe brands and foot specialists that our feet need extensive support, but just as we can train other parts of our body to become stronger and more resilient, we can also train our feet. The VFF KSO and Fila Skeletoes look almost identical. You will not notice the 4 toes versus the 5 toes unless you really focus on the uppers. I didn’t notice much toe spring and it did not feel like it standing on them. That said, these shoes do carry a little extra weight. At 16.8 ounces, this is the heaviest pair on the list and about twice as heavy as the most minimalist running shoes out there. Fila Skele-toes are both toe shoes and have an overall minimalist design—not much upper and not much sole. Unfortunately, the Skele-toes rubber sole is noticeably stiffer than what I’ve come to expect from my toe shoes. The stiffness is most noticeable at the arch as the Skele-toes sole is curved at the arch to mimic the shape of the foot. Whatever the case, if you’re looking for less interference when you run compared to traditional options , any of the footwear we cover below will be a good place to start – especially many of the more affordable pairs. Many runners seem to agree this design is also A LOT more comfortable than the five-finger versions, too.
