About this deal

Easy to use, spray on formula • Safe to use on edible and ornamental plants • Harmless to people, pets and the planet • Strengthens and stimulates growth • Absorbed into the foliage for longer lasting control • Easy ready to use spray, no dilution necessary The lily beetle ( Lilioceris lilii) is the number one pest of lilies. It can reduce a lily plant to nothing in just a few days, so needs to be controlled.

Roselily Bulbs should be planted as soon as possible. Ideally in the Spring but can be planted up until the Autumn. Protect your plants by spraying with Grazers Lily Beetle Spray. Simply spray onto the foliage of the lilies and fritillaries in the spring as new growth emerges and continue to spray throughout the growing season. The spray is taken up by the plant making the foliage unpalatable to the lily beetles, so the beetles and the larvae won’t feed. Supplied as a 750ml Ready to Use Spray or as a 350ml Concentrate (makes 7 litres of spray) for use in your own sprayer or to refill the RTU Spray. J. Coulson These bulbs where amazing such a delight, I planted all 10 bulbs in one large container. Should I leave them in or take them out and let them dry out, protect from frost and replant next year.

Lily beetle control

Earlier this week I noticed 3/4 lines of plants which had been badly eaten as they started to sprout. (No or very little leaves left) I used the last of my spray to cover them. Lilies prefer to be planted in a location with at least half a day’s full sunshine, if it’s a bit too shady they will lean their stems towards the sun. Red lily beetle overwinters as adult beetles in soil, leaf litter and other sheltered places. This could be anywhere, not necessarily in the vicinity of lilies and fritillaries. They can also fly and find new hosts in the spring. They find lilies and fritillaries at least in part by volatile chemicals given off by the leaves, the adult beetles will also produce aggregation pheromones drawing more beetles to suitable host plants. Consequently, there is no advantage in attempting to treat the soil below lily plants. The beetles begin emerging on sunny days in late March and April when they seek out the foliage of host plants. All four products in the Grazers range are in liquid form and based around the plant nutrient calcium (the CaCl form), combined with a natural adjuvant of a plant extract to improve its plant interaction. The content of individual Grazers products differ in the amounts of these co-formulants, each depending on the circumstance, so orientated towards the pests’ grazing method and the plant type. A customer once mentioned to me that they planted their lilies alongside a garlic bulb and that seemed to help deter the lily beetle for them. Perhaps that may be worth a try also.

Easy to use spray which coats the leaf and while being effective against damage also benefits the plant due to its unique formula. When sprayed proactively every 7-10 days upon first sighting (from March onwards depending on the region and climate) plants continue to thrive, eggs are less likely to be laid and therefore larvae aren’t a problem either. Tree lilies can be planted in pots or in flower beds. The good thing about tree lilies is that they are happy in any well-drained soil. They like full sun ideally as they will lean to find the light otherwise and some tree lilies can get very tall. When applied to leaves and stems, the calcium is also absorbed into plant cells resulting in a “plant mediated effect” of making the plant unappealing to pests. The newest leaf or two formed after Grazers application is expected to be assisted by the translocated calcium. The lily beetle (Lilioceris Lilii) is the number one pest of lilies. It can reduce a lily plant to nothing in just a few days. Both the adult lily beetles and the horrible grubs devour lilies - leaves, flowers, and flower buds. Grazers products are liquids, sold in either a ready-to-use (RTU) sprayable formulation or in concentrated form that requires dilution. This specific mix of calcium and adjuvant only works to keep away grazing pests when it is applied to the photosynthesising leaves, stems or flowers of any plant, thereby interacting with the plant’s own metabolic processes. After a few years of flowering, you may find the Oriental Trumpets Lily produces less blooms, it may be time to lift your bulbs and divide them by breaking off the bulblets. All the bulbs will then need replanting.

If you do decide to use pesticides, the shorter persistence products (that are usually certified for organic growing) are likely to be less damaging to non-target wildlife than those with longer persistence and/or systemic action. Adult beetles and grubs can be controlled, and plants protected, by spraying with Provanto Ultimate Bug Killer, Resolva Bug Killer or BugClear Ultra; the larvae are more susceptible than the adults. Pesticides The RHS recommends that you don't use pesticides. Most pesticides (including organic types) reduce biodiversity, including natural enemies, impact soil health and have wider adverse environmental effects. Lilies like a cold dormant phase throughout the winter so they don't need lifting. However, do ensure they have adequate drainage and do not get waterlogged as this will cause the bulbs to rot. You can feed your lilies with a Tomato Feed to stimulate and strengthen your lilies when you start to see signs of growth. Make up your tomato feed with half the recommended dilution (written on the instructions on the bottle) and feed once every 3 weeks.

Wow, they sound very tall. Lilies can get taller over the years once they become more mature. I would advise giving the soil a freshen up each year and try using a good multipurpose compost like John Innes No 3 which is recommended for most lilies. You can also try using a Tomato Feed on your lilies to stimulate and strengthen them. Start using it when you see signs of growth. Make up your tomato feed with half the recommended dilution (written on the instructions on the bottle) and feed once every 3 weeks. Grazers is an effective and easy solution to prevent damage caused Red Lily Beetle on Lilies, Fritillaries and other members of the Liliaceae family.

Or you can use the "eco friendly" foliar spray Grazers G4, which reduces the feeding damage of lily beetle infestations. It also strengthens and stimulates plant growth. I've never used it, so I'd love to hear from anyone that has on how effective it is.Like all safe and good biologically-active products, this effect does not last forever, because it is a normal plant nutrient and therefore naturally dissipates within the plant. Ready to use spray. No dilution necessary. Treats approx. 30sq m. Grazers is NOT a pesticide and is therefore safe to pets, wildlife, and the environment.
