About this deal

She’s jobless due to her career as a journalist being destroyed and he comes from a wealthy prominent family and is about to take over the running of The Gazette, the family newspaper. All in all, this was a fun read and I'd recommend it to those who like mysteries and domestic thrillers.

In prose so cluttered with admissions of inexactitude—“so to speak,” “if you will”—that it often seems as if his words are grinding to a bureaucratic halt, he forces us to notice the infinite elisions, all the other voices gone unheard, incurred by each linguistic choice he makes. For Saer, who left behind a fractured Argentina only to ceaselessly reinvent it in writing, memory is a luxury belonging to those who don’t overthink it. In addition to those things I loved the character who played into upsetting any plans of happiness that Madison and Cooper might have, and watching that play out gave this excellent read an extra layer of intensity. But it doesn't take her very long to realize that Cooper hasn't been entirely honest with her about his past and he and his family are hiding many secrets.Madison is a tenacious journalist but has now turned her attentions to organising her wedding and solving the mystery about her fiance's dead girlfriend.

Yet, nothing has been found to show the Ones Before had ever existed, or lived sometime in the deep past. Incidentally, I would say second-last, third-last, etc, but I would not say second to last or second from last, though I might say second from the end. Neo's true nature as The One manifests after he is shot and apparently killed by Agent Smith while trying to escape the Matrix after rescuing Morpheus from interrogation by the Agents. I did some queries in the COCA and BNC corpora, and it seems that second last is the more common form in British English. With Neo now having accepted his true nature, The Oracle proceeds with the next phase of her duty; she informs Neo that saving humanity as The One entails reaching the Source, which is the center of programming power for the Machines and where the Matrix receives its programming. The Architect, as creator of the Matrix, is also well aware of The One's existence and purpose, referring to The One as an "eventuality". But for someone fluent in neither English nor German, the phrase "second to last" might be cause for confusion. She is also trying to negotiate new relationships with her in laws, a stressful experience that most people will be able to identify with!

In fact, so much of Saer’s fiction happens in this languorous threshold between experience and awareness, between what is sediment and what has yet to settle, that when the realization of lived experience hits, it’s thrilling: finality comes down on the story like a hammer, sending the reader reeling back like a manic Proust. Madison knew about Celia but not that people had suspected Coop of being involved in her accidental drowning. These instances represent two distinct facets of the same idea and demonstrate how Saer is constantly reformulating his conclusions and restating his assumptions, like an analytic philosopher under pressure. Casually, I would say 'second last' (I speak a kind of British English), so it confirms what dangph said. but these latter adjectives are usually only used in very particular erudite circumstances, like where to put the stress on syllables in a word. This action gives the Machines an opportunity to destroy Smith through direct access to him via the new Neo-Smith clone, a chance the Deus Ex Machina does not hesitate to take by sending a power surge through Neo's body that destroys the Neo-Smith clone as well as all the other Smith clones, including the Oracle clone.

As Madison begins to settle in, she can’t shake the feeling that Cooper is hiding details of his past relationships but she’s distracted with the wedding planning. This was a clever and twisted tale of intrigue, family entanglements, small-town complications, and secrets. Superhuman Stamina: The One can exert themselves for extended periods without tiring at all far more than anyone else within the Matrix can. A few gossiping towners still point their finger at Cooper Douglas whose her boyfriend and the last person who saw her alive. He also survived being slammed into the ground from a high altitude by Smith, an action which a normal Redpill would not have survived.
