Other ports include: Introducing the MinisForum HX99G Mini PC: Unleash Your Creativity and Gaming Power Experience the Ultimate Performance AMD Ryzen When discussing the synthetic benchmarks, we already mentioned the option to connect an external graphics card via Thunderbolt. But in the pure gaming tests, the configuration using the Razer Core X and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Tiis unable to deliver a convincing performance. Unfortunately, the limited bandwidth of the external PCI Express connection is demanding its due. From the outset, the HX77G diverges from most Mini PC designs because it isn’t super-small, at least twice the size in every dimension of a typical NUC. Where those systems use a 4-inch motherboard, the one here is at least 8-inches square, providing plenty of space for mounting extra technology and ventilation.

What may appear surprising is that in gaming the CPU temperature has increased to 76.6 °C. This is because the CPU and GPU share the same cooling plate, so any heat is distributed across the cooler. Mini-PC CPU Temperature & Frequency Test Removing four screws hidden under the rubber feet makes it possible to remove the top of the HX77G and then remove a metal frame to have full access to the mainboard. Our review system came with 32GB of Corsair branded DDR5, but these 16GB modules can be removed to upgrade this machine to 64GB if required.Except for the barebones version, all versions come with Windows 11 Pro pre-installed. The barebones version does not include RAM and SSD; therefore, it does not have pre-installed Windows 11 Pro. At 4K we can see the HX99G mini PC for gaming in third place with the NUCXi5 and i7 taking the lead.

With the Minisforum Neptune Series HX99G, the manufacturer performs some product maintenance on its very compact gaming PCs. With the new AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX, there is a fast SoC, even though it is unable to ensure a noticeable increase in the performance compared to the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX. Due to the compact construction, we see that as so often, laptop technology is also used here in these compact PCs. Usually this works very well, since the performance of the separate components has hugely increased in the last few years. With the native octa-core processor ( AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX), there is sufficient performance, and in combination with the AMD Radeon RX 6600M, you can even enjoy the most current games. One downside to consider is the size of the power supply, which is larger than expected and may compromise portability. This could be a limiting factor for users who prioritize mobility or require a more compact form factor. Of course, Metro Exodus and Red Dead Redemption 2 are extremely intensive, so it’s no wonder that the HX99G struggles with them. Still, you can get seriously awesome performance out of this mini PC. I’m a big fan of the Minisforum HX99G. In fact, it’s difficult to find anything truly wrong with it other than some particular issues with my unit. For example, it seems like the model I received struggles with display output inconsistencies, where it simply won’t output to any monitor from any of the HDMI or USB4 ports. I never did figure out the problem, and I suspect a manufacturing defect is to blame. For the most part we were getting full speed on the many of the games we tried, both first and third party games. You may see some drops below full frame rate now and again but nothing that spoils playing. Final Thoughts Our final benchmark is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. The HX99G is the highest model in the Minisforum lineup featuring discrete GPU. This is a small form factor system, but it is significantly larger than most 4-inch MiniPC, in fact, it could be just about four times as large. However, this system is not designed to be a work computer, but a proper gaming machine considering the form factor. The elaborate carbon fibre adorned enclosure can either lay flat on two rubber strips on the underside or be placed vertically on an included wedge-shaped foot. Sadly, this machine is too big to be VESA mounted. Again the pattern continues once we go to 1080P, which is a jump in performance for the HX99G taking a solid 2nd place. The max RAM of HX80G is 64GB with speed limit to 3200MHz. The max RAM of HX99G is 64GB with speed limit to 4800MHz.
