About this deal

It’s designed to sharpen both blades of the shears at the same time, whilst maintaining the correct angle on them to ensure proper cutting. Please note that the right to return goods which are not faulty does not apply to any goods which have been made to your own specifications. Anything over 2 kg will likely feel heavy to most gardeners after prolonged use. Although manageable, you may want to choose a lighter tool if you get tired easily, struggle with mobility, or don’t have a lot of upper-body strength. Shears that way over 2 kg probably aren’t the best choice for larger gardens.

Enter: lawn edging shears. Capable of taking your lawn from an 8 to a 10, they trim and neaten the grass at the edge of your lawn to produce a crisp finish. Small hedge shears are an option. As long as the handle and blade aren’t too long, these are great for getting close to smaller shrubs. Shorter blades, measuring between 17 – 21 cm are better for smaller gardens and getting into more intricate areas. If your garden has shallow verges, you may find it easier to work with smaller blades.Just about everything about these edging shears shouts good build quality, from the handles, to the grips, to the blades, but that quality comes at a cost and that cost is manoeuvrability. Do you want to take your time to edge your lawn manually, or do you want to speed up the process and use a machine? Even trimming the grass at the edges of your lawn with a pair of edging shears can take a fair amount of time.

The main thing to watch out for, which can’t really be put down as a fault of the shears, is their sharpness. The blades are made from chrome-plated high carbon steel, which doesn’t wear down easily. When cleaning, the blades are sharp enough to easily slice through cleaning cloths, so wearing gloves is essential (as is having your guard about you at all times). These shears have 90 cm long handles that connect to angled carbon-steel blades measuring 23 cm. Therefore, if you have a couple of ‘features’ in your garden, perhaps a bird bath or a fountain which you can’t get close to with the mower, these shears will help get all the grass to the same level. There are soft grips on the tops of the handles, to make the shears easier to hold, made from a combination of thermoplastic rubber and polypropylene.

Lawn edging shears are very low maintenance, but most will still require sharpening every once in a while. Before you begin, assess whether you are comfortable to sharpen the blades yourself. Shear blades are sharp and could cause serious injury if not treated correctly. If you have any doubts, take them to a professional.

You can also get hedge shears with telescopic handles, so you can reach the top of the hedge easier, without needing ladders. If the overall length of the shears exceeds 60 cm, they may be too long to comfortably cut around smaller bushes. Please note that during particularly busy periods, it may take a little longer to receive your delivery and our carrier may attempt to deliver to you on a Saturday. Faster Delivery Thinning shears are small with thin, short blades that are used for delicate plants, such as bonsai trees. Unlike some edging shears, that catch on themselves whilst cutting, these glide past each other without excessive friction. It’s also possible to adjust the blade tension, with a dial on the blade if necessary. No tools (like a screwdriver) are needed to adjust the tension, which makes it very easy to do.Remember that shears with long handles (which aren’t telescopic) will require more storage space. Weight and Manageability At the top of the handles are large, yet soft and comfortable grips made from rubber that are designed to be anti-slip and they work really well. I used these shears without gloves on for a short while and I liked the way they felt in my hands, secure but still comfortable. The heads can be orientated differently depending on whether they are intended for grass cutting or edging. Shears for grass cutting will have a ‘scissor’ head that is positioned parallel to the ground. Shears for edging will have a head that cuts more like a standard pair of scissors.

Offering a good combination of affordability, quality and value, these Bulldog Premier Edging Shears are some of the best edging shears to buy if you’re after a mid-range option. They’re not as expensive as premium shears, but still offer quality construction and durability. If you're not averse to bending down, or you need to reach into awkward areas where long-handled shears wouldn’t fit, one handed grass shears are much easier to use. It's also possible to double up and use a set of hedging shears to trim grass. Specialist tools will prove more convenient, but if budget and storage space preclude it, one good pair of shears could suffice. They are useful to use on grass where a garden strimmer might cause damage and a lawn mower is too large to fit. They are also called loppers and are ideal for any plant with a diameter under 2 inches. They are basically bigger pruning shears with longer handles. Working days are defined as Monday-Friday 8am-7pm inclusive, excluding Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays. Need something longer to trim a tall hedge? Look for a set of best garden shears with longer handles to give you extra reach when cutting. If, however, you plan to use them for other jobs, the length of the handles may be a bit unwieldy, so consider investing in a pair of shears with telescopic handles instead.
