About this deal

DuoCleanis Shark's self-adjusting brush roll that automatically adapts to carpet and hard floor without you having to switch over. The second was the wealth of new technologies that Shark boasted about with this vacuum when we got a first glimpse of it at IFA 2023. This vacuum has four detection technologies so that cleaning your home is more thorough than ever. When we were testing, we found dealing with high-traffic areas much easier thanks the the amped up suction and the FloorDetect technology makes transitioning into different rooms across your home much easier too. We really like to get a hands-on experience with the products which we feature across Ideal Home, in line with our testing protocol. It means that we get tounderstand more about whatyouare getting for your money. READ NEXT: The best Shark vacuum cleaners to buy Shark Stratos Anti Hair Wrap Plus Pet Pro IZ400UKT review: What’s it like to use?

Shark vacuums have some really good features that they have developed over time and are unique to them and work in a very simple but clever way to ensure you get the maximum benefit with the minimum of fuss. It takes less than 2 minutes to set it up and it’s good to go. If you are not into tech and you are not interested in LCD displays and you just want something that’s going to keep your floor clean with no fuss then the Gtech is a winner. As you can see from our chart above, this isn’t as powerful as Dyson’s latest Gen5detect, and it falls behind the power of the cordless upright ICZ300UKT, though it is more powerful than the Hoover HF9. All 3 of Gtech’s vacuum cleaners are cordless with no cables attached and run off a battery that you can expect about 40 minutes of life from on one charge. If money is no object then the Dyson Gen5detect remains a superior option, but not to the extent that it’s worth paying almost twice the price. Its battery lasts a bit longer and it comes with a few more bells and whistles, but you’re definitely not getting twice the vacuum.

The Shark Stratos IZ400UKT is a brilliant performer at a very attractive price

The compromise you have to make is a cable which actually isn’t as bad as it sounds. Until recent years all hoovers were corded and was it really that much of an inconvenience? Although the Shark IZ420UKT superficially looks like its predecessor, the Shark IZ320UKT, this new model retains the best features of the old cleaner and adds some new ones into the mix. The Shark Stratos Pet Pro Anti Hair Wrap Plus Anti-Odour Upright Vacuum NZ860UKT is an upgrade over last year’s Shark NZ850UKT in more ways than one. With a new Anti-Odour pod and redesigned floor head, this is a far superior product to last year’s cleaner and officially the best overall upright vacuum cleaner that I’ve reviewed. Gtech is perfect if you want to clean floors effectively and easily. They are lightweight and have an on/off button with no frills and no bells and whistles. We have some detailed articles that explain each of these features in detail so if you want more of a long read on each once then links are below.

She also loved the portable vacuum cleaner element that is accessible with just the push of a button. This is thanks to Powered Lift-Away which is super handy for using the suite of attachments to refresh upholstery or vacuum skirting boards.

Below we go through all of the Gtech vacuum cleaners and a small selection of the best Shark vacuums that you may wish to consider as an alternative to the Shark. These are all the Gtech vacuum cleaners with a breakdown of the differences between them: Gtech Mk2 AirRam Cordless Upright Vacuum Cleaner Switching between carpet and had floors is very easy thanks to the DuoClean brushrolls, which switch over with the touch of a button. It's also possible to go between three power levels, although we found the lowest level perfectly strong enough for the majority of tasks.

The Shark Stratos Anti Hair Wrap Plus Pet Pro IZ400UKT comes heartily recommended. It’s a terrific cleaner at a good price. Its performance in our tests rivals that of vastly more expensive models, and I love the fact that you don’t need to switch the floor head over when moving from one surface to another. Most vacuum cleaners have a brush roller because they do a good job on both hard floor and carpets but to get the best results you should switch between the two. The relatively new innovation to Shark's portfolio is Flexology which allows the wand to go from straight to angled, is a feature which we highly rate. It means that you can get your vac under the beds and various items of furniture that are raised up on legs. What we found, however, is that the floorhead wasn’t as easy to direct accurately as is the case when it’s used with the rigid wand. The only difference between the 3 different models is the capacity of the waste container. Most homes will be fine with either the NZ801 (0.83 litre capacity) or the NZ850 (1.3 litre capacity). For larger homes or if you ‘d rather not empty the waste container very often then take a look at the PZ1000 which has a 1.6 litre waste container. There's no doubt that our testing process proved that this vacuum is worth the large price tag that it carries. Even if you don't have pets, the ease with which this vacuum does away with hair is astounding, and our Ecommerce Editor Molly found that it was unmatched when it came to suction.Shark is one of the top vacuum cleaner brands in the world and has taken on Dyson at the premium end of the market but Gtech is a bit of a hidden gem when it comes to keeping the hoovering simple whilst Shark offer something for all home types but who is the best? So if you have pets or it’s going to be used very frequently then it might be worth considering the upgrade. There are also selectable Eco and Boost modes available if you want to take control. Eco can be useful for delicate items, such as vacuuming a keyboard, while the Boost mode is a good choice for when there’s a lot of mess to deal with.

Shark claims that it has all the power of a corded vacuum cleaner but in cordless form, and after testing we couldn't agree more. It's got DuoClean which makes switching modes immensely straightforward, and the controls make it easy to see how much battery you have left. To charge, simply lift out the battery on the side of the dust tank and pop it into its charging port. Gtech only does cordless vacuum cleaners so if you want to compare Gtech specifically to Shark cordless and you want to rule out corded completely then this is a complete breakdown of all of Sharks cordless vacuums: This can be described as two-finger operation because when used on hard floor or short pile carpet it literally glides across the floor and you can control it by loosely holding the handle with two fingers. Another success story from Shark as they never rest on their laurels and continue to innovate year after year. See my full review of this hoove rin the Stratos range after using this vacuum cleaner on a daily basis here:If you want an all in one vacuum that effectively cleans all above-floor surfaces as easily as the floor then Shark has a huge array of different options to suit any home large or small. The Shark Stratos Anti Hair Wrap Plus Pet Pro Cordless Vacuum IZ420UKT marks a big change in design and strategy for the vacuum cleaner company, introducing a host of new features, including a new floor head, an Anti-Odour pod and automatic power modes. It’s a triumph of power, features and design. You get 4 different options to choose from so you can get exactly what suits the size of home you have and whether or not you have pets. It comes with a single or twin battery and with or without a motorised pet tool
