About this deal

For a long time we might have had to follow that initial endorsement with a note of caution, but what a difference a book can make. Having laboured for most of the edition under the curse of an early codex, Ritual of the Damned has provided the Grey Knights with a spectacular boost, finally giving them the kinds of tools needed to properly take the fight to enemies of all stripes. For every five models 1 model may replace their Storm Bolter and NFS with a Psycannon, Incinerator, or Psilencer Drawing upon his pledges of duty and the bonds of his brotherhood, the psyker releases a fiery conflagration of death. Witch fire: Fires of Covenant has a warp charge value of 5. If manifested, select one enemy unit within Engagement Range of this PSYKER’s unit. Roll one D6 for each model in that enemy unit: for each roll of 4+, that enemy unit suffers 1 mortal wound (if the psyker manifesting this power has the Psychic Epitome Warlord Trait, the enemy unit suffers 1 additional mortal wound after all these dice rolls have been made). Each unit can only be selected for this psychic power once per turn.

With a few notable exceptions, all GREY KNIGHTS units are drawn from a brotherhood. When you include such a unit in your army, you must nominate which brotherhood it is from and then replace the < BROTHERHOOD> keyword in every instance on its datasheet with the name of your chosen brotherhood. The different Brotherhood keywords you can select from are: SWORDBEARERS; BLADES OF VICTORY; WARDMAKERS; PRESCIENT BRETHREN; PRESERVERS; RAPIERS; EXACTORS; SILVER BLADES. Hammerhand* (WC 5) (B)- The “mainstay” power, available for STRIKE SQUADS , TERMINATORS and DREADKNIGHTS , giving them reroll Wounds in melee. A powerful boost for those about to make it to combat, and usually better than a lone Smite or Brotherhood power in those instances (with some exceptions). Always useful regardless of target. That means instead of trying to find weird ways to enhance Terminators or Paladins into killing anything that isn't a Marine in close combat, we instead ignore this premise completely. It's like a football team winning the Super Bowl; you win it by giving yourself as many chances at the postseason as possible with an "accuracy by volume of fire" mindset. What we DON'T do is try to force the army to do something it isn't built for. WE DO NOT build Draigo led Terminator bombs to try and kill Wraithguard or Dreadnoughts. That's like trying to turn an Imperial Guard squad into a close combat unit. We accept them for what they're good at and copy/paste. That's really it. Stretch out their lines by deliberately sacrificing some of your own units in key moments. Sneak your Dreadknights around the field, hiding behind cover and terrain, prolonging how long it takes to shoot them off the board (like hide them, don't charge units unless you're in a bad position with no other choice and your Dreadknight is on 2 wounds left; move them around to keep lascannons coming their way for as many turns as possible). Build your army list to jam as many 2+ Armor Save PAGK and OC bodies into it as possible, and count on the fact that your opponent probably built their list to fish for a stupid combo.

I still have a pot of Fortress Grey that I use for this step, but once that’s gone I’ll switch to Administratum Grey, as it’s almost identical. I edge highlight most things although I have a feeling the Land Raider might have been drybrushed. For a final highlight I simply add a touch of Reaper HD white to the grey to lighten it further, and only use it on corners or apex of curves. Red weapons An enemy of the Chapter is pinpointed to this battle, a foe the Prognosticars have hunted through countless visions. This Severance Bolt - as unique as all others - was prepared long ago, awaiting this moment. Steeped in psychic power, the enemy’s past and future misdeeds chanted over it, this silver-tipped bolt will hone in on its preys warp signature to the exclusion of all others. When you give a model this gift, select one bolt weapon that model is equipped with. Before the battle, select one enemy CHARACTER unit. Once per battle, when the bearer shoots with that weapon, you can choose for it to fire a Severance Bolt. explode’ essentially translates to ‘An unmodified 6 to Hit does an additional hit’, so read that as ‘Does 2 Hits instead of 1’. Per the Core Rules, anything that might also happen on a 6 to hit (such as auto-wounding) does not apply to the additional hit, only the original. Grey Knights are commonly formed into Strike Squads to pursue the execution of their holy duties. Daemonic threats must be met with sudden, overwhelming force, often with the use of precognition to arrive at the appropriate moment. When you include a unit with the < BROTHERHOOD> keyword, nominate which brotherhood it is drawn from.

You will not kill everything off the table with this list. You will likely not even kill half of their army with this list. This list is not built for killing enemy units; it is for playing the objectives and winning games with little else considered. It is not an easy list to play if you're used to just pointing units at other units to roll dice; if you didn't take the Supremacy or Domination secondaries the last couple editions, this will be a hard list for most of you to use at first.Named characters cannot be given any of these upgrades. Each CHARACTER model cannot have more than one of these upgrades, and an army (or a Crusade force) cannot include the same upgrade more than once. Visions of the Augurium and Gifts of the Prescient are not considered to be Relics for any rules purposes - this means a CHARACTER model can be equipped with both a Relic and one of these upgrades.

The Grey Knights are classic sculpts granted, but are really showing their age, and it doesn’t help that 95% of the box is outdated like that. It’s the big heads that get me – it really is a screenshot from a bygone era. I’d love to see the Grey Knight range get the refresh they deserve so they can look eye to eye with the heretics and daemons they were engineered to hunt. If you’re looking to play Grey Knights as a pure force you’ll be fielding Strike Squads. Grey Knight lists need a lot of CPs to take advantage of their stratagems, the best way to get a lot of CPs is through the Battalion detachment and that will require either Strike Squads or Terminator Squads. Overall the Strike Squad is the superior choice as they cost less for 5 and 10 man units, and points are very limited commodity in a Grey Knight army. Keep in mind the Strike Squads strengths and weaknesses through out the game and during deployment and you can get a lot of mileage out of them. The depth of hatred these battle-brothers reserve for their warp-spawned enemies is such that each of their psychic barrages is delivered with overwhelming force, blasting any who would attempt to stop them. Each time this unit attempts to manifest the Smite psychic power, if an enemy PSYKER attempts to deny that power and is unsuccessful, that enemy PSYKER suffers 1 mortal wound.

Wardmakers

As to be expected, there are good savings to be had with what you get. You almost get the Terminators for free! Boarding Patrol: Grey Knights – Points Augury of Aggression- Let’s one CORE or CHARACTER within 12” hit on 4+ when Overwatching. You still need to activate the Stratagem to Overwatch, and at 20pts it’s not too cheap, but this can cause a big dent in a charge if used on the right unit.
