About this deal

As far as stand ergonomics go, the Odyssey G5 doesn’t offer a great deal. With no height, swivel, or pivot functionality, the G5 only features tilt adjustability. RPI/CPI Price Increase - Each year, your Pay Monthly airtime tariff will be adjusted according to Three's Fixed Annual Price Change (Three), the Retail Price Index (O2) or Consumer Price Index (EE, Vodafone) rate of inflation. The Samsung Odyssey G5 (LG32AG550) is the latest refresh of the brand’s budget-tailored G5 from 2020. The new variant features a similarly impressive 1000R VA panel that delivers OK colors and stunning immersion. More impressive, however, is the new 165Hz refresh rate, slightly tweaked feature list, and increased brightness. Looking at the physical gamut graph, you’re able to see where the Samsung G5 gamut falls short in the three respective spectrums. Overall, while the colors aren’t terrible, they’re not exactly spectacular either – but that’s to be expected from a monitor of this price point. Maximum And Minimum Brightness

With specifications out the way, let’s take a closer look at the build quality, design, and mechanical features the Samsung G5 comes equipped with. Aesthetics As for bezels, the G5 features a near-boarderless design that is great for increasing the feeling of general immersion when gaming or watching content. The top bezel is slightly smaller than the side and bottom bezels, measuring in at around 11mm. The side bezels measure 13mm while the bottom bezel offers a much larger 28mm profile.Overall, I feel Samsung has produced a decent entry-level monitor here – offering good gaming performance and decent levels of immersion when considering the price. Out of the box, the Samsung showcases a 165Hz refresh rate, OK colors, and FreeSync support – enabling the panel to produce a tear-free visual experience when gaming.

The G5 does in fact support HDR10 content, however, with poor peak brightness, there was no real benefit to using this. The maximum brightness of the monitor was around 300 nits, resulting in a fairly weak HDR experience. This was experienced across both gaming and content consumption scenarios. On a more positive note, the monitor itself does actually feel quite sturdy. During the testing process, I didn’t experience any major creaks or flexibility. The panel also features a matte anti-glare coating that is much more resistant than glass. The major seams of the monitor look to be well finished with no gaps for particle matter to build up. Furthermore, all buttons and inputs feel purposeful – something that often isn’t the case with lower-priced monitors. That said, when considering the price (and some of the competing alternatives), it’s hard to be too harsh on the Samsung Odyssey G5. Ultimately, if you’re looking for a budget-friendly curved gaming monitor, this could be exactly what you’re looking for. Ultimately, the visual experience in both games and every content was OK. It wasn’t amazing, but it wasn’t terrible either. That being said, if you’re looking for the best visual experience possible, you’ll probably want to opt for a IPS alternative. That said, as far as VA panels go, you can’t argue with the G5 too much – especially at this price point.

Users will also be able to fully adjust the color of the monitor, with options for RGB tweaking, brightness, contrast, and sharpness available. The Samsung Odyssey LS32AG550 is the latest refresh of the hugely popular G5. The new version of the 2020 G5 features a similarly impressive VA panel and 1000R curved 32 inch display. However, with a faster refresh rate, higher peak brightness, and a tonne of additional gaming-tailored features, there’s plenty to like about this new refresh. Like always, I started off by loading our favourite game, CS:GO. While this isn’t everyone’s cup of hot brown, it is a competitive title with fast-moving images – meaning we should get an excellent idea of the G5’s responsiveness.

Nominal Tolerance Exceeded (Areas start to differ from reference - potentially noticeable to human eye) Great colors and excellent picture quality are two of the most important factors that help create immersion when playing games or watching movies. Like all major display manufacturers, Samsung tries to provide the best color via a number of different presets found in the OSD. We’ll be testing each for color accuracy in this section – followed by panel uniformity tests, a peak brightness test, and gamut volume measurements as well. However, that’s where the positives end. The G5 continues to feature fairly limited input options, terrible build quality, and some major flaws in performance when it comes to competitive titles. Smearing, ghosting, and haloing are all visible at some stage when playing games, reducing the overall immersion the panel offers.
