About this deal

Along with “The Fifth Vital,” Mike Majlak and his friend and fellow YouTuber, Logan Paul, also co-authored two other books. This book would be good for either people who are going through some of the same struggles as Mike went through or readers who know who Mike is and would love to know much more about how he became who he is today. In 2020, Mike Majlak published his first book titled, The Fifth Vital alongside New York Times bestselling author Riley J. Ford. The book discusses Majlak's early childhood and his addiction to opioids. Mike mentions there were several times when he was inches from death and finally decided to get his life together. After the book's release, Majlak was accused of fabricating parts of his story. According to one source, Majlak used the stories of his childhood friends and claimed they were his own. A friend of Majlak, Matthew Duchon, said that Majlak paid him money to not mention the falsities of his book. [8] Personal life [ edit ] Overall, The Fifth Vital is perfect for anyone who wants to experience addiction from an addict's point of view. And if it could find it's way into the hearts of those struggling through addiction, it would be a very inspirational story. It is sad, heart-breaking, tragic, inspiring, and poignant in it's humanizing of addiction. Hernandez, Patricia (3 December 2018). As a result of Mike’s fascinating and relevant writing style, readers often feel as though they are traveling alongside him. Thisis a very powerful, inspirationalstory very inspirational because he begins with high school life, the beginning of his addiction, its effects on his life, and ends with his story today. After getting the book, I could not stop reading it. In fact, I finished it in an entire day because of his compelling story. It is compelling and attention-grabbing, and I would read this again. It is one of the best books I've ever read.downstairs to help him. That was the lowest point of my life and a regret I’ll have forever. It was also a turning point when I knew I couldn’t continue on this path any longer. While his peers were graduating from college, buying homes, getting married, having kids, and leading normal lives, Mike was snorting OxyContin, climbing out of cars at gunpoint, and burying his childhood friends. Robert Englund’s book Hollywood Monster, a number of Corey Taylor books, Slash’s autobiography and The Motley Crue book The Dirt have been the only books in existence to ever grab my attention. I ended up on Mike’s own YouTube channel where he and girlfriend Lana Rhodes were chatting to people on Omegle and a group of fans caught my attention. Author Riley J. Ford has crafted a well-rounded story around Mike. She has crafted the book in a way that brings the story down to earth. Many celebrity books always have this ‘talking down’ way of being written where they sit atop a pedestal and preach their success. Certainly not here.

Takes a severe plummet in quality around the final third / quarter. The part documenting the post-rehab years. Not exactly because of that but I understand it’s harder to make stories of anxiety in recovery as interesting as guns and class A’s. But the narrative tried too hard to counter that, resulting in cliche and melodrama. I’m sure I don’t need to explain why ending a chapter: “ I had no idea what was in store...” (yes including the ellipsis) makes me less interested to find out, not more. The prose towards the beginning , while not exactly sophisticated , could have an intelligent flourish, so it feels like the whole thing ran out of steam. How long has The Fifth Vital been in the making? I started writing the book in 2012. I know it’s crazy to imagine that almost eight years of work has gone into the book. I then met my writing partner Riley in 2019, and we worked hard to get the book over the finish line in six months to become what it is today. So it’s been quite a long journey. The first being a collection of overcoming the odds and chasing a dream and the Motley Crue book, well, that’s just batshit crazy and fun to read from start to finish!
