About this deal

If you would have told me in April 2017 that I would be running the 2018 London Marathon, I would have never believed you. It was a dream come true for me, to compete as a Para athlete against other athletes at a World level.

It was a process to build trust, and the more I started trusting the blade, the more weight I could put on it and make my gait much better. As i’ve just recently had a larger operation, here are my hints and tips for how to recover or keep yourself occupied during your recovery. Run straight ahead → perform a crouch-jump → at the last moment before hitting the ground while still in the air crouch again to activate sliding on landing and immediately jump again.Last year, I was looking through the Obstacle Course Race World Championships (OCRWC) qualification criteria and came across The Nuts Challenge. It works like this: The liner slides tightly over your stump, which in turn slides into the socket (which is molded around your stump) and the socket is connected to the foot or blade.

With my blade, because of the heel, I am actually okay with uneven terrain but I know lots of amputee runners don’t have the same luxury. The biggest challenge with running feet are that they are expensive, and you can’t just try a foot out and decide if you like it or not. My blade has fantastic grip on the bottom, which lasts me for almost 1,000 miles whereas other blades grips may only last a couple of hundred miles - but then you can easily swap them out for a spiked bottom, for track running…the options are almost endless! A competitor must not be seen to have a running blade which shows an “unrealistic enhancement of stride length".Over the years I’ve learned a lot—here are my tried-and-true tips to not only help other amputees, but to help give able-bodied runners a little insight into what amputees need to think of. That’s why we want to do anything we can to help people be the best that they can be and help them get to where they never thought they could be. The pioneer will then be able to jump onto a Storage Container or Conveyor Splitter/ Merger, which makes factory building much easier. Whereas most British people would talk about the weather or politics, I am asked what it is like to run on a blade.

A 12-hour event, with 5 mile loops, challenges set between each loop - as close as you can get to a virtual obstacle race. It causes too much pistoning (when your leg moves up and down in the socket)—it feels like a shoe that is too big and your foot moves around in it, and the rubbing will cause blisters. I use the Blade XT and it is perfect for everything that I need - it’s comfortable, springy, able to tackle any terrain, able to walk on and looks pretty awesome too.If you have been following my journey for a little while, you may have noticed that I have been campaigning for more inclusion within competitive Obstacle Course Races (OCRs). Until this weekend, I thought I knew what it was to be an ASICS Frontrunner but the past few days in Dublin have really opened my eyes.

Whether you are going for a jog in low light or running throughout the night, this blog will give you some tips and hints as to how to manage it. Once accepted, you are asked to come into Nashville for about a week to be fitted and test out what you might want to do with your prosthesis. Not only are we having to think about how to be seen but also how to see as well as all of the other challenges that running at night has. I just found it hard to roll up, and it fits really tight around my knee so I didn’t have a great range of motion.
