About this deal

Typically, one of the first benchmark tests we run is UL's PCMark 10. The wide-ranging benchmark suite simulates a variety of Windows programs to give an overall performance score for office workflows and the like. Unfortunately, budget laptops normally don't have enough memory to run the tests properly, so we couldn't quantify performance for a comparison as we normally would. The Inspiron 15 3000 also was the only laptop of the bunch that successfully ran GFXBench 5.0, another graphics stress test that runs low-level routines like texturing, and high-level tasks like game-like image rendering to gauge GPU performance. While the other budget laptops came up short, the Dell managed 15 frames per second (fps) during the 1440p Aztec Ruins test but more than doubled its frame rate during the 1080p Car Chase test. While not a gaming laptop by any means, the Dell might manage some undemanding games at 1080p at 30fps, as long as they're not too graphics-intensive.

The Dell Inspiron 15 (3525) avoids some dangerous competitors with its low pricing, but that doesn’t mean it can get off scot-free. We’ve tested a handful of midrange laptops that are within spitting distance of the Inspiron in price and feature comparable—and often better—specs. Many of the best webcams for Windows PCs use USB-A, so it makes sense to have older ports, but some PC accessories use USB-C. For example, some of the best external hard drives connect through USB-C. Three more of our benchmarks focus on the CPU, using all available cores and threads, to rate a PC's suitability for processor-intensive workloads. Maxon's Cinebench R23 uses that company's Cinema 4D engine to render a complex scene, while Primate Labs' Geekbench 5.4 Pro simulates popular apps ranging from PDF rendering and speech recognition to machine learning. Finally, we use the open-source video transcoder HandBrake 1.4 to convert a 12-minute video clip from 4K to 1080p resolution (lower times are better). To see how much graphical horsepower a system has, we test Windows PCs' graphics with a pair of DirectX 12 gaming simulations using UL's 3DMark Night Raid (low-intensity) and Time Spy (high-intensity) tests. First Group: The LED blinks with an Amber color 1 to 9 times, followed by a brief pause with the LED off for 1.5 seconds.

Hard drive retention: Hard drive retention is not available on models with a soldered hard drive, including XPS 9315 2in1, Chromebooks or Venue tablets, except the Venue 11 Pro. Disconnect all external peripherals including the keyboard, mouse, and external monitor. Peripherals also include external storage devices such as flash drives, USB devices, printers, cards, etc.The left side includes two USB 3.2 ports (Type-A), an HDMI 1.4 port, and the power-adapter connector. For every single one of these tests, the Inspiron falls behind the ZenBook 13 (UM325), thanks to the latter’s upgraded processor and extra memory. The same goes for the HP Pavilion Plus, which has a huge leg up, thanks to its powerful Core i7-12700H.

Sadly, the Inspiron also has the worst display of the bunch. Maxing out at 258 nits, it’s not bright enough to use outdoors well, and its 66% coverage of the sRGB color space is too low to use for any sort of design work. The HP Laptop 17 and Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i aren’t much better, but at least the latter can hit up to 400 nits of brightness. Perform system maintenance on your computer, for more information see Optimization and Maintenance of Microsoft Windows or Troubleshooting Slow Performance Issues. Second Group: The LED blinks with a White color 1 to 9 times. Followed by a longer pause before the next cycle starts again with the LED off for 3 seconds. Terms Apply. Promotion ends 3 December 2023. Items are subject to availability. Max 5 units per customer. Moreover, this laptop has two SO-DIMM slots that you can configure with up to 16GB of DDR4-2666 RAM. Similarly, you get 256GB/512GB of SSD. There is also a vacant 2.5″ SATA slot for storage expansion.

The Inspiron 15 3000 is everything you'd expect from an affordable laptop by Dell, and that's a good thing.

The blinking patterns will consist of 2 sets of numbers being represented by a group of Amber blinks, and then a a group of White blinks. One major difference between this model and the previous 3505 model is the 1,920-by-1,080-pixel display. The full-HD, 15.6-inch anti-glare screen is an upgrade from the 1,280-by-720-pixel resolution of its predecessor and another feather in the cap of this capable budget machine. There is no touch-screen option, but it’s not something you’d expect in this price range anyway. Unfortunately, the screen brightness isn’t that bright, registering a maximum of 261 nits in our testing. That means that despite the higher resolution compared with its predecessor, the laptop still makes images and video look dim. The Inspiron 15 3000 didn't do that well here, coming second to last, with only the MSI Modern 14 doing worse. Of course, the chances of doing any serious multimedia work on a budget laptop are unlikely. Try to flash the BIOS to the latest version.
