About this deal

Don’t try to repair a broken drawstring unless the break is very near the end of the string. It will be too weak when it’s reknotted or mended. Tying the end to the current drawstring is also the easiest way to thread the elastic drawstring into position. This should only take a couple of minutes to do and once it is in you are set to use your sweat pants again. Make your exit and entry holes first. Then cut the elastic and attach one end of the drawstring to one end of the elastic. Use one of the new holes to get it started. Then take the other end of the elastic have it exit the other hole and pull the new drawstring through till it comes out the other side. Thread the new drawstring through the grommets or casings, following the same path as the original drawstring.

It is also the simplest way to replace the drawstring on most clothing items. Keep the original drawstring in place till you tie the end of the elastic to one end of the drawstring. This means you will have to cut the casing open and remove the stitches. A free elastic waistband saves you a lot of this hassle. Once you get the stitching out, cut the elastic and remove it. With the casing open you do not need its help in threading the drawstring.

Assessing the Issue

Replacement Grommets: If the existing grommets are damaged or causing discomfort, having replacement grommets allows for easy substitution. It’s going to be a little difficult at first cause’ you’ll have the bunched-up end, but you’ll be able to get it through, and then you’re going to just slowly work it through the material. And the best way to do that is to bunch up. Grasp the front end of the pin through the fabric and straighten the bunched fabric, pulling it down over the knot and the first few inches of the drawstring.

This is going to take you a little time as the elastic waistband may be stitched into place. This does not happen all the time but it does happen and you will need to be ready to find where the stitches are and remove them. We will walk you through re-knotting the drawstring, repairing frayed ends, and replacing the drawstring entirely in a few short sentences. Our DIY solutions will get your sweatpants ready to go in no time; you won’t have to deal with frustration when you wear sweatpants. Pass one end of the drawstring through the safety pin and tie it with a simple knot. Do not open the safety pin now or at any time during this process. So, the only supply you’re going to need for this is a safety pin. It’s usually good to use the biggest safety pin you can get, not one of those ridiculously huge ones. But one of the larger sizes, if you’re thinking like about two inches long, if you can get it. Scissors: A reliable pair of sharp scissors is essential for cutting and trimming the drawstring with precision, especially when dealing with frayed ends.

Threader Tool: A threader tool is an alternative to safety pins, helping to guide the drawstring through narrow channels or tight spaces.
