About this deal

Best Lenses for Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5 Micro Four Thirds Mirrorless Camera. Looking for recommended lenses for Panasonic GH5? Here are top rated MFT lenses. Dynamic range is a measure of a camera's ability to record extreme brightness ranges and still retain detail in the brightest and darkest parts of the scene. It's measured in EV (exposure values, or 'stops'). The original GH5 was a pretty pricey camera when it first came out as a premium hybrid camera right at the top of the Lumix range. Prices have come down since then, partly because the camera has been out for a while now and partly – we assume – to make room for the GH5 II. The price for the new model does look very competitive, even against the original price for the GH5. Which one you choose will depend on how much extra you want t to pay for the GH5 II’s worthwhile but very specific video enhancements and its wireless streaming potential. The sensor is essentially the same one that Panasonic has been using across its Lumix G camera range for some time now, though it’s matched up with a new, faster Venus processing engine which brings new and enhanced video modes and contributes towards this camera’s burst shooting abilities.

Why? The world is full of solo video shooters who work under less-than-ideal conditions and despite what armchair experts will tell you, focus peaking doesn’t work in every lighting situation. More importantly when you’re in hour 7 of a 10-hour assignment in some dimly lit wedding venue or custom metal fabrication business, you can’t really trust your blurry, burning, exhausted eyes to focus on anything.

Panasonic didn’t stop there, though. They improved the GH5 slow-motion quality from the GH4. It's ‘predecessor’ that sounds royal, right? King George the VI – the predecessor to Queen Elizabeth the II – you hear it too now, right? Alright, enough history. The GH5 has almost doubled its frame rate with up to 180fps with full HD and 4k with 60 fps. Connectivity It can handle splashes and dust thanks to a magnesium alloy full cast front. This makes the GH5 a camera to be used with complete confidence - even in the most challenging of circumstances. Like I said – Northern Lights, who knows maybe you’ll encounter a Walrus, I mean have you seen the size of those things? A decent protective cover definitely won’t hurt! The GH5 II will cost a few hundred more than the GH5, but arrives at a very similar price to the older camera when it was launched. We don't yet know if the GH5 will remain on sale, or for how long. The Lumix GH5's electronic viewfinder sees a big jump in quality from the GH4's, up to a staggering 3,680,000-dot resolution and 0.76x magnification, while the vari-angle display has also been improved, with the 3.2-inch touchscreen featuring a resolution of 1,620,000 dots. The display also employs Panasonic’s WhiteMagic technology for increased brightness. we need to remember that most of the Panasonic and Olympus lenses are such poor quality that they shouldn't be used for anything except paperweights, especially the 14-1xx. Both companies make some very good and excellent lenses but they are the exceptions. Night Mode] has been added, which reduces glaring on the screens when recording in low-light environment. The GH5 II relies on Panasonic's DFD autofocus system. It's built around contrast detection, a different approach than the hybrid phase-contrast system used by most rivals, including Olympus' top Micro Four Thirds models, the E-M1 Mark III and E-M1X. Olympus M.Zuiko 100-400mm, 400mm, f/7.1, 1/320-second, ISO 200 Exposure Offset Adjust.] has been added to Custom menu, which enables adjustment of the standard exposure value for all metering modes. The autofocus is very fast, responsive and positive for single images. We didn’t have an opportunity to test the GH5 II with fast moving subjects in burst mode, where some users complain of focus ‘dithering’ caused by Panasonic’s DFD contrast AF system, but for regular stills work it’s very good indeed.

Richard, for not being familiar with Resolve you did an unbelievable job with this review. You taught me several things I didn't know about Resolve and also tested a few things in ways I hadn't thought of. Excellent job with this review. Keep up the great work. The GH5S uses a chip that natively shoots DCI or UHD 4K, meaning one pixel on the sensor is used to produce each pixel in the final footage. The sensor, like that on the GH1 and GH2, is oversized. This means it can shoot different aspect ratios using the full extent of the imaging circle projected by the lens, rather than simply cropping down from the 4:3 region. As well as using the maximum amount of pixels and silicon for each aspect ratio (with consequent image quality benefits), this also means that the diagonal angle of view is preserved, whether you shoot 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 or in DCI 4K's roughly 17:9 aspect ratio. The Micro Four Thirds format supports loads of adapted lenses, so you've got the flexibility to use modern lenses for a sharp, high contrast look, or go with vintage lenses for a more artistic style. We went with an antique Canon 50mm F1.2 for the sample clip above, captured at 24fps using the Cine2 profile. Panasonic says its newly updated in-body stabilization system now offers up to 6.5 stops of shake compensation, and this works alongside in-lens stabilization, where available, and electronic stabilization for smoothing out handheld video footage. If the scene you are recording does not exceed the dynamic range that the camera can capture then giving up some dynamic range shouldn't be a big deal.

There's no change here. The GH5 and GH5 II share the same magnesium alloy construction, weather sealing and 200,000 shot shutter life. (Image credit: Panasonic) So the GH5 II has a tough act to follow, and inevitably there will be those who feel that Panasonic hasn’t gone far enough – to be fair, the original GH5 didn’t leave it much room! Not only that, the new Panasonic GH6, still in development, is likely to be the new flagship powerhouse in the Lumix G range. This does make things more confusing still for Panasonic fans, who already might have a tough job choosing between the do-it-all Panasonic Lumix G9 and more video-focused cameras like these. The Bluetooth Remote Control function can be used with Image App, which will also be updated at the same timing with the GH5 firmware release. For [4K 60p] [4K 50p] video output, use an HDMI2.0 cable that has the HDMI logo on it, and that is described as"4K compatible".
