About this deal

Royal Salute is a blended Scotch whisky brand produced and bottled by Chivas Brothers in Strathisla Distillery [1] in Speyside, Scotland. [2] It was launched on 2 June 1953 in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II on the day of her Coronation. [3] Named after the ceremonial 21-gun salute that is fired from the Tower of London to mark special royal occasions, Royal Salute whiskies are aged for a minimum of 21 years, [4] making it the only Scotch to begin its collection at exclusively 21 years-old. Strathisla distillery [ edit ] Strathisla distillery At her coronation, the crown of Queen Elizabeth II was set in rubies, sapphires and emeralds. These precious stones remain the inspiration for the colours of Royal Salute's handcrafted flagons, therefore bottle colour may vary. FINISH: The whisky finish ends in notes of spice and toffee. The Royal Salute has a medium-long finish. A brown decanter was introduced in the 1950s but was discontinued in 1991. Other colours, all containing the same 21-year-old blend, have included blue (first introduced in 1960), and burgundy, which first arrived in 1985.

It's a real treat (should I say "royal treat"?) and, to round things up, it isn't super-pricey (not cheap, though.) As mentioned before, I've also had the chance to drink and review the way more expensive elder brother (38 y.o.) but this is the one I'd root for. Royal Salute was launched on 2nd June 1953 as a tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on her Coronation Day. The name of this exceptional Scotch Whisky comes from the 21 Gun Royal Salute, which is fired as a mark of respect for powerful dignitaries. In 1842, Chivas Brothers were requested to supply provisions to the royal family at Balmoral Castle upon Queen Victoria’s first visit to Scotland. The Royal Salute brand’s home is Strathisla Distillery at Keith, Moray, Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1786 on the banks of the River Isla. Royal Salute is 21 year old blended Scotch whisky first created in 1953 to pay tribute to the British monarchy, with the first bottles launched at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II (which took place at Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953 when Elizabeth II was in her mid twenties). Fittingly, the whisky takes its name from the “21 gun salute” which is a customary British gun salute.Other releases from the Chivas Regal stable that I have tried include the Chivas Regal 12 yo Blended whisky and the Chivas Regal Extra blended whisky. Royal Salute is unique in that the youngest ‘entry-level’ expression in its range is 21 years old. Since its launch Royal Salute has always been bottled in coloured ceramic decanters, the first of which was green, and made by Royal Doulton. It initially featured the Royal Coat of Arms, which was later replaced by the Chivas Brothers crest depicting Robert the Bruce.

The store sold luxury food items such as coffee, exotic spices, French brandies, and Caribbean rums to wealthy customers. As the business grew, Chivas Brothers gained a reputation for supplying smooth malt whiskies of the highest quality. Mouth starts pungent and oily; midpalate develops salty and bitterish notes. Finish is very long, with soft metallic flavors coming hand in hand with a sweet and oily feeling. Boy, do I like it. The Royal Salute liquid is 21 year old blended Scotch whisky. Despite being a blend of different whiskies, Royal Salute’s “home” is said to be the Strathisla distillery (which is the oldest working distillery in Scotland, having been founded in 1786). Beyond this hint from Chivas Brothers that part of Royal Salute’s recipe may be Strathisla single malt whisky, there is not much more official information about the malt and grain whiskies that make up this iconic blended Scotch.A rare brown Spode decanter from Chivas Brothers Ltd, This Royal Salute flagon of 21 years old blended whisky has been specially created to celebrate the Coronation of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Showered with royal warrants since 1843, Chivas Brothers has more than returned the favour with Chivas Regal and a bevy of other blends with the word ‘royal’ in the title. Of these, the most prestigious is Royal Salute, launched in 1953 to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. Taste: The initial taste of sherry, walnuts and oak is strong, but the palate dries and orange peel, cinnamon, honey and cooked apples eventually emerge and cut through a thin veil of wood smoke and char, as an oily film coats the tongue.

Finish: The nut oils dry up as the oak becomes grippy, and the taste of tea leaves and spices fade gently together with dwindling citrus peel marmalade and dates in what is a slow, long-lived and classy finale. Strathisla Single Malt is one of the malt whiskies used as part of the Chivas Regal blend. Launched in 1953, this Chivas Royal Salute 21 yo whisky served as a tribute to the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Its spiritual home of the brand is Strathisla in Keith, and select casks have been put aside in the Royal Salute Vault atthe distillery to mark future celebrations. In 2002 whisky was drawn from the stash to produce Royal Salute 50-year-old for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee. What a beautiful container. The blue porcelain flagon stands out on my whisky shelf. Chivas Regal Royal Salute 21 Best Shot Whisky Reviews : Chivas Regal Royal Salute 21

This rich and complex scotch blended whisky from Chivas is aged for 21 years in oak casks before bottling in handcrafted porcelain flagons.PALATE: It is very smooth. Tasting it brings notes of vanilla and sweetness to the palate. There is an abundance of fresh fruit and little hints of smoke. It is not the most complex whisky and quite thin on the mouth. But the flavours of oak and barley combine with fresh fruit and becomes amazingly balanced. There are faint hints of spice and ginger. Let's get into the review itself. What have we here? A clean, golden to amber pour with a greenish cast to it. Aroma starts with a very clear and distinctive hint of pineapple that I loved and led me to pair this with the very fresh raw fruit a few day later to great heights of joy. There's also a trace of umeboshi plum and citrus rind. Add a little water and the charred oak will be displayed: caramel, charcoal, undergrowth, etc. I must say this one goes well with a drop of some subtly sparkling water, but that's just an aside. Today the Royal Salute also includes the Eternal Reserve, Diamond Tribute, 38 Years Old Stone of Destiny, and 62 Gun Salute.
