Amy explained: ‘Over the past two years, I worked on a group project at the University of Bristol to develop a STEM competition where participants compete to produce as much energy as possible using renewables. Working with EcoStyle, we developed a working prototype that allowed their solar panel and wind turbine to store energy, which could be used to power a small electric vehicle.’ In response to the climate crisis, countries in the region recognise the need to diversify away from reliance on oil, and to adopt renewable energy. There is also a strong desire to invest in training and education. EcoStyle’s renewable energy kits have been used in an ‘Education for Renewable Energy’ project for schools in Abuja, Nigeria. Irish Aid provided funding for over twenty of EcoStyle’s wind turbine kits, photovoltaic kits and solar water heater kits.

EcoStyle is pleased to welcome University of Bristol graduate Amy Ruffley to undertake a summer internship. Amy has recently completed an undergraduate degree in Engineering Design at the university, a course which aims to develop high calibre engineers who can lead complex engineering projects. EcoStyle, in conjunction with Frazer-Nash Consultancy, has recently supported a two-year Engineering Design course at the University of Bristol. Living With Water’ is a partnership between Yorkshire Water, Hull City Council, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the Environment Agency and the University of Hull – all of which play a role in managing water in Hull and the East Riding. The idea for Eco Style came when Angela, our founder, was on holiday in Greece visiting family. A walk along the beach with her young daughter one morning showed her the amount of plastic that had been washed up and she began to think about what these wasted materials could become. We have used the model to have quality conversations with communities about their flood risk and what they can do to become more resilient.
