About this deal

Make sure that you harvest all ripe fruits, since those that fall to the ground may well emerge as new seedlings next year. Garlic: Fresh garlic is so delicious in salsa verde! You don’t even need to mince the garlic since this recipe is made in a food processor. Brexit was implemented without a trade deal, and the current UK Government has since then brought in regulations that make it very hard to bring seed in to the UK, so some things grown for us in other countries will be in short supply or unavailable for the forseeable future. Thank-you for your understanding.

There isn’t much canning involved in this recipe, but here are a few things to keep in mind when using cans: They could be at least a partial substitute for tomatoes that don’t make it through, since they are far more resilient crops and are resistant to a range of tomato problems. Fruits with split husks can be stored at room temperature for a week or so, or in the fridge for up to around three weeks. Jalapeños: Use 1 to 2 jalapeños for this recipe. If the peppers are small, definitely use two. This is how you can adjust the heat of your salsa. If you are trying to make an extra mild salsa verde, just use less jalapeno. If you like it spicy, add more! Poblano peppers can also be used.Tomatillo chutney will store very well in the refrigerator afterward, but can also be put in the freezer. Don’t forget to label and date the chutney so you are sure when you made it. Serving Tips

Some find them bitter when raw, though the flavour is said by most to be more appealing when the fruits are cooked. You do need two plants to get fruit, as they aren't self compatible, but two or three should be plenty. Provide a bit of support for the bushes as they can reach 4ft tall and 2ft wide. Onion: I like the flavor of yellow onion in this salsa, but a white onion will work too. Chop the onion coarsely. Tomatillos are typically ready to harvest in autumn, which could be anything from 65-100+ days after seedlings were transplanted. This is a very pretty, unusually-coloured tomatillo.
