About this deal

There are 3 different modes that show up on the foot display: area rug mode, SteamWash Mode, and Hard Floor Mode, and the Mode button on the handle toggles between them. Admittedly, the icon for each mode wasn’t intuitive at first, so I relied on the user manual until I memorized each one. It’s also worth noting that the mode and clean-out cycle buttons looked similar to the untrained eye, so I recommend reading through the user guide before your first use. When used with a cleaning solution, especially an antibacterial one, hard floor cleaners will do a much better job of banishing any nasty bacteria that might be lurking. Most have dual water tanks, which means that only clean water will be pulled through the rollers and onto your floor. What type of flooring can I clean? I measured the Bissell CrossWave Cordless at 78.7dB, which is around the same volume as I’d expect from a regular cordless vacuum cleaner. My area rugs are noticeably cleaner after using the CrossWave. I typically do three passes over an area before moving on to another. The CrossWave Max weighs a very respectable 5.22kg and comes with an extra large 828ml clean water tank and a larger-than-average 550ml dirty water tank with filter attached. This means you can clean for much longer than others without having to refill the clean water tank or empty the dirty one. Top marks there.

Save yourself time with The Bissell Cross Wave Cordless Max. This fantastic BISSEL hard floor cleaner combines chores like vacuuming and washing at the same time, so you save precious time. The 36V lithium-ion battery provides 30 minutes of cordless cleaning power, so you can clean without being tied to an outlet. Thanks to its multi-surface cleaning capabilities, you can switch from cleaning sealed hard floors to refreshing area rugs in an instant. The Cross Wave Cordless Max also features improved edge cleaning to clean up tough messes like pet hair that cling along baseboards and in corners. That’s completely up to you. However, if you’re in a household with heavy traffic – for example, lots of people and/or animals – we suggest using your hard floor cleaner every few days. Aside from the on/off button, the CrossWave Max also has a floor selector that activates two types of water intensity for treated wooden floors and non-porous compounds like tile, linoleum, polished concrete. A separate button activates the self-cleaning mode when the unit is mounted to the charger-cum-cleaning station. Manoeuvrability is pretty good, too, with the flexible joint to the floor head making it easy to corner and move around furniture. The brush roll cleans itself in its storage tray, to flush out dirt, hair and debris after each use. Anyway, the upshot is that the CrossWave Cordless Max performed a miraculous feat by restoring the floor to its original condition – well at least close enough. I then added a squirt of ketchup to see how well it cleaned it up and how well the self-cleaning system performed. Lo and behold, my new floor dynamo completely eradicated the ketchup after just two passes, depositing it all in the dirty water tank which by now resembled the contents of a cesspit. Emptying the contents into the sink was easy but I did have to manually remove a bunch of hair and rinse the whole tank under the tap – par for the course with any floor cleaner. A notable issue I’ve had with other vacuums is the spitting out of kitty litter. The CrossWave easily slides over litter without throwing out even a single particle. I have yet to find another machine that does this so well. After the floors are clean, it’s time to clean the vacuum by emptying, rinsing, and wiping down the clean tank that stores cleaning solution as well as the dirty water and debris tank, which has a pet and human hair strainer to separate larger debris from dirty water. I really appreciated the pet hair strainer because I could throw out all the solid debris and rinse the rest off. I also took out the brush roll to dry, though I often had to rip long hair that wrapped around it during the cleaning process. Filter: The filter sits on top of the dirt compartment and can only be accessed once the dirt compartment has been pulled out. It has an attached screen to trap any fine debris or small strands of pet hair. You should wash the filter under water after every cleaning session, and you can use mild detergent if necessary.

After each use, it’s recommended to run a Clean-Out Cycle, which uses the FreshStart cleaning solution in the water tank, and remove the brush roll to dry. Full disclosure - this is pretty tedious, since you’re repeating many of the same steps that you've already performed to clean your floor, but it also helps protect the longevity of the CrossWave Hydrosteam. From there, you just need to open the removable brush window and leave the brush roll to dry. How does the CrossWave Hydrosteam rate online? To test how good the Bissell CrossWave Cordless is, I put it through a series of tests on different floors. First, as this is a vacuum cleaner, I used the standard hard floor test, sprinkling a teaspoon of rice on the floor and then giving the vacuum cleaner a single pass through it. After one sweep, there was a clean sweep through the rice, but stopping the vacuum cleaner let a couple of grains drop out onto the floor; it was nothing that a couple more sweeps through didn’t fix, but a higher power mode would have been nice. When it comes to hard floor performance evaluation, I’d like to think I have a good test bed for a device of this nature. Yes, kids make a mess and even some grown ups do, too. But nothing – nothing I tell you – messes up a house more than a bunch of animals. I have two labs and three cats and that means muddy floors on a regular basis… and hair. So. Much. Hair. Whether or not this is the right product for you will partly come down to what you need to clean. If you’ve got large areas of hard floor, then the 25-minute battery life may be a restriction too far, and a plug-in cleaner, such as the Karcher FC5, or a cleaner with swappable batteries, such as the Vax OnePwr Glide, could be a better bet. Rug test – Remove most of the mud ground into the carpet, but a dedicated carpet cleaner will do a better job for tougher stains.Related: Best hard floor cleaner Bissell CrossWave Cordless Design and Features – Simple to use and easy to clean
