About this deal

In 1934 they also edited a book of stories for younger readers called “The Golden Wonder Book for Children,” which is not an encyclopedia. WONDER is also a work to learn from. I feel its purpose, beyond entertaining us readers, was to make people realize once again that they shouldn’t judge based on the cover. And that is a universal message. Maybe the book was written for a younger audience, but I don’t think anyone that read it could say it isn’t mature enough. Both volumes are divided into five books: "On the Land", "In the Underworld", "On The Sea", "In the Depths" and "Man and Progress" and each of those books is divided into "Natural" and "Artificial". WONDER is the story August Pullman (or Auggie), a little boy facing a rare disease that causes facial deformity and his Journey through school and life in general. Is also the story of the people around him and of their way of living with Auggie and that is probably what makes it so heartfelt.

It was one of those great June days when the sky is completely blue and the sun is shining but it isn't so hot that you wish you were on the beach instead. It was just the perfect day. Everyone was happy. I still felt like I was floating, the Star Wars hero music in my head." If you think you have seen Fiddler on the Roof, think again. The wonder of it all is the magic that transformed stories by Sholem-Aleichem into a near universal icon of enduring power. How that happened, the multifarious forms and meanings of Fiddler on the Roof, is the subject of Alisa Solomon's meticulously researched and beautifully written book.” — Barbara Kirshenblatt-Gimblett, author of Destination Culture: Tourism, Museums, and Heritage As you may already know, we aren’t like other online book stores. For starters, we don’t believe that books should only be read once, or have a single owner. Literature should endure and be continually recycled, which is why we help millions of used books find new homes every year. We've all been bullied before. Criticized or cast aside because of how we talk, what we wear, or who we hang out with. But I doubt that many of us have experienced anything like what August Pullman went through. Ten-year-old Auggie was born with a severe facial deformity, and despite his shining personality, is plunged into a world with people who cannot see past his appearance. Wonder details Auggie's journey into the fifth grade, and serves as a stark and honest portrayal of the problems with being different. Meanwhile, Via's best friend Miranda has started avoiding her, for reasons unknown to Via. Both audition for the lead in their school play, and Miranda gets the part, with Via as her understudy. On opening night, Miranda sees Via's family in the audience and feigns illness so that Via can take her place for the evening. After the show, the two reconcile.

Mr Browne is Auggie’s English teacher. Every month he teaches the children a new motivational quote, called a "precept", which helps them to think more carefully about their actions. At the end of the year, the children must write their own precept. Findlay, Carly (3 June 2014). "Wonder by RJ Palacio. Choose kind". Carly Findlay . Retrieved 7 July 2021. I wish every day could be Halloween. We could all wear masks all the time. Then we could walk around and get to know each other before we got to see what we looked like under the masks." Rich and memorable…It’s Auggie and the rest of the children who are the real heart of ‘Wonder,’ and Palacio captures the voices of girls and boys, fifth graders and teenagers, with equal skill.”

Still, there were many moments my heart ached for August and sometimes I just wanted to hug him like his mom. It made me sad that he had to fight for being accepted, that he couldn’t just go out like any other kid, that there always were people who stared at him. But I didn’t just feel for our cute and adorable protagonist but also for his family and friends. The moment his father cried alone in his bedroom touched me so much I just couldn’t stop thinking about it… Not even after I closed the book.
