About this deal

I was coming to terms with my gender dysphoria and that month alone was one of the most difficult and yet reparative instances of my life.

Begin from Llyn Ogwen (There is free parking in the laybys alongside the lake) and then walk down to Idwal Cottage. Take the path which leads up to a b Goodwin, Stephen. "Leap before you look". The Independent. Archived from the original on 11 February 2017 . Retrieved 10 February 2017. Follow the coach road for around half a kilometre to Gwern Gof Uchaf where you’ll need to keep your eyes peeled for the the footpath heading right onto the hillside. There’s a street view for this section, you can follow it below. Sitting alongside Tryfan is a miniature version of the main mountain itself, known appropriately as Tryfan Bach, which literally means Little Tryfan. It’s a well know feature of the valley, located just a short walk up the hill from Gwern Gof Uchaf Farm (where there is parking and camping). The majority of the routes can be found on its expansive slabby West Slab, where lines from Moderate to Severe can be found. It’s a great venue for beginners or those looking for an easy day, the only thing preventing it from being perfect is the fact that the routes are all at least two pitches long, making it less than ideal for groups. There is an infrequent T10 TrawsCymru Bus Service bus service between Bethesda and Capel Curig/Betws-y-Coed, helpfully it doesn’t run on Sundays or Bank Holidays. Thankfully, the electric Bws Ogwen has been running since 2022 between Bethesda and Ogwen and hopefully they will continue to do so in 2023. They ran 12 mini-buses midweek (not Wednesdays) and 15 on the weekend and can carry 9 at a time. Although the best routes on Tryfan are all found on its East Face, just to the right of the Milestone Buttress are several short ice routes that are worthy of mention.

On the North Ridge, once you find The Cannon’ you will then know you are on the right path for the summit. Tryfan South Ridge While Snowdon may be the highest peak in Wales, many adventurers visit Snowdonia for the express purpose of summiting Tryfan. It’s one of the most eye-catching peaks in all of Britain, with a rugged three-headed shape that dominates the landscape. None other than George Mallory, the famed explorer who got ever-so-close to the first successful summit of Everest, undertook his first two British climbs on Tryfan. It’s an iconic mountain that makes for a memorable adventure! Summiting Tryfan means getting your hands dirty. Some scrambling is required whichever route you take. Though the two main ridge routes, North and South, and West Face are not technical climbs, they do call for a head for heights, a reasonable level of fitness and ideally some scrambling experience.

While the thought of not actually ascending a mountain, and walking around it can be strange at times, it can be a thoroughly rewarding trip into terrain that people may not otherwise experience. This route can start off at Idwal Cottage, or Glan Denau; but you can walk to these start locations from any of the usual A5 laybys. There are only three distinct approaches to Tryfan, all of them worth doing, and with no other options for the non-rope carrying hill walker. All these routes are scrambles requiring a level of skill beyond just being fit, and a definite head for heights. Some sections are exposed! Tryfan North Ridge

An unforgettable mountain day | Snowdonia Society". www.snowdonia-society.org.uk. Archived from the original on 9 August 2019 . Retrieved 9 August 2019. Unless you are a proficient scrambler with lots of climbing experience, I would avoid the gully on bristly ridge and instead head up the steep loose scree path. Having admired the views north to the Carneddau and south towards the Glyders and Yr Wydff (Snowdon), there are various options for returning to Llyn Ogwen. Descending past Far South Peak to the pass at Bwlch Tryfan, you can swing right down Cwm Bochlwyd along the Cambrian Way, skirting Llyn Bochlwyd to reach Ogwen Cottage at the western end of the lake. The route is about 2.5 miles altogether. Or continue on to Glyder Fach and choose one of the descent routes described below. This isolated monolith is a touch less accessible than Tryfan’s main bouldering area, but is worth seeking out by the mid grade boulderer. It can be found some 150 metres left of Clogwyn Bochlwyd in a slight depression, not far from the path used to access Tryfan’s West Face. It’s home to just four problems, graded V2 to V4. All problems are worthy of attention, however, the real star (literally if you speak Welsh) of the boulder, is Seren (V4), an absorbing and unquestionable classic line. It probably makes the trip worthwhile all on its own. Mountain Conditions Thank you so much to Chris and the team you was magnificent and to the young lad that winched us down he was so amazing... You are all amazing hero'sYou’ve arrived at Ogwen with some mountain newbies, or those who know better and have left the crampons at home (“Well it wasn’t snowing in Surrey!”) and the mountains are wearing their full winter raiment (that’s enough Showell Styles for one post). Climbing Tryfan, for it’s more a climb than a walk, is off the cards, though you do seriously consider plotting in the GPS coordinates for the Aber Falls car park and tell the less-equipped that you’ll see them later on. Of course, there’s nothing stopping you nipping up the South Ridge while they have a long lunch or if you’re doing the walk in non-winter conditions. Going down, they’re sure it will improve, and it gets worse, and then they take possibly a fatal step, which is very unfortunate.
