Andre E.: Mutmaßlicher Unterstützer der Terrorgruppe NSU in Untersuchungshaft". Focus . Retrieved 11 September 2012. The Fortress of Mimoyecques is the modern name for a Second World War underground military complex built by the forces of Nazi Germany between 1943 and 1944. It was intended to house a battery of V-3 cannons aimed at London, 165 kilometres (103 mi) away. Originally codenamed Wiese (“Meadow”) or Bauvorhaben 711 (“Construction Project 711”), it is located in the commune of Landrethun-le-Nord in the Pas-de-Calais region of northern France, near the hamlet of Mimoyecques about 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Boulogne-sur-Mer. It was constructed by a mostly German workforce recruited from major engineering and mining concerns, augmented by prisoner-of-war slave labour. Hawley, Charles (15 November 2011). The bunker sustained repeated bombing raids by Allied forces during a joint Anglo-American campaign called Operation Crossbow, which was an initiative to remove the threat of German long-range weapons programs. The Essen Stadtbahn Metro railway is 21.5 kilometers (13.6 miles). There are 22 underground stations (and additional surface level stops, where the trams travel). Diehl, Jörg (15 November 2011). "Fourth Suspected Terror-Cell Member Detained". Der Spiegel . Retrieved 15 November 2011. Economists are warning of energy price spikes deeper into the winter, saying that Europe is yet to find itself physically short of gas during the current gas year, which began in October. The word “Riese” (prounced “REE-zuh”) means “giant” in German. And this was an ambitious project even by Hitler’s megalomaniacal standards: seven underground structures connected by tunnels totaling over 5.5 miles in length beneath the Owl Mountains of Lower Silesia and the opulent Ksiaz Castle in what was then Germany and is now a territory of Poland.

Many people see Essen as the country’s energy capital. It is home to the two major electric companies, E.ON SE and RWE AG. The legendary “Amber Room” from St. Petersburg in Russia, removed and restored intact in a giant viewing room beneath Owl Mountain. Gelsenkirchen Buerer Straße: Connects to bus routes SB36, 252, 253, 254, 258, 259, 260, 383 and 396 and tram route 301. It’s a strange feeling to come into a dark, half-blasted bunker, see parts of stairways and cables hanging out of the wall and walk through rubble in between holes that go several meters down into the ground. It’s eye-opening to crouch down in an air raid bunker and experience how it must have felt when the situation was for real. Von Der Behrens, Antonia (15 January 2018). "Lessons from Germany's NSU case". Race & Class. 59 (4): 84–91. doi: 10.1177/0306396817751307. ISSN 0306-3968. S2CID 220072502.

Around 1983, after the first generation of punks had served their initial jail sentences, the punks started to move out into the streets, joining the mass demonstrations that eventually helped to bring down the dictatorship. Stasi records from the time prove just how inflammatory the punk scene was to the dictatorship. On the eve of the revolution in 1988, Stasi records identify a group called the Church from Below – who were, in spite of their name, an atheist anarcho-punk collective – as the most threatening activist group in the country. In January 1989, another Stasi report identified punk as the single-biggest youth problem, basing their findings on the national communications network that the punks had managed to build up by that time. The bunker was never fully completed due to continuous Allied bombing raids that was intended to delay or incapacitate the V-weapons programme (also part of Operation Crossbow). The complex was captured by allied forces in September 1944 and has since been converted into a museum dedicated to the history of the German V programme. On 11 July 2018, Zschäpe was convicted of murder on ten counts and sentenced to life imprisonment. Her accomplices were convicted as follows: [41] The National Socialist Underground (German: Nationalsozialistischer Untergrund, pronunciation ⓘ), or NSU ( German: [ɛnʔɛsˈʔuː] ⓘ), was a far-right German neo-Nazi terrorist group which was uncovered in November 2011. [1] The NSU is mostly associated with Uwe Mundlos, Uwe Böhnhardt and Beate Zschäpe, who lived together under false identities. Between 100 and 150 further associates were identified who supported the core trio in their decade-long underground life and provided them with money, false identities and weapons. Unlike other terror groups, the NSU had not claimed responsibility for their actions. The group's existence was discovered only after the deaths of Böhnhardt and Mundlos, and the subsequent arrest of Zschäpe.

Plans for the bunker called for a massive reinforced concrete barrel vault composed of 12 arch sections under which Messerschmitt Me 262 jet engines would be manufactured in a 9-story factory. The battery structures include bunkers, gun emplacements and the Marine Peilstand 3 tower, which was one of nine planned towers in Jersey for use in observing targets at sea. Strictly speaking, tax evasion is part of the parallel economy, since the term refers only to those activities that create new value; for example, a garage that was built off the books. Berliner Unterwelten was founded in 1997 to explore, document and preserve the city’s subterranean architecture. The organization’s base is in a former air raid bunker in the Gesundbrunnen subway station, now a museum—the Unterwelten Museum (Subterranean Museum)—that offers various tours through Berlin’s underground. The bunker was cleared and reconstructed by the group and transformed into a museum while maintaining its original character. Hiding on four floors below Berlin are dozens of bunkers, tunnels, walkways, canals, the route of a pneumatic postal system, storage rooms, bomb and ammunition storage, and abandoned subway stations.
