About this deal
Maybe the higher price is the result of Nikon’s licensing fees, or maybe it’s just the natural result of competition. To be specific, Sony users already have the Sony 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 OSS and the Sony 70-200mm f/4 OSS that this Tamron lens must compete with, whereas Nikon users don’t have any native alternatives. But the tamron is a newer design, is cheaper, better build, has ring AF and full-time manual focus.
Tamron 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD review | Digital Camera
It should be noted that our test sample of the Canon 70-300mm ƒ/4-5.6L is actually on par with the Tamron in terms of performance.) Given the 300mm maximum reach, the Tamron 70-300mm F4.5-6.3 Di III RXD is a surprisingly lightweight and compact lens.Just Arriving Used Gear at B&H: EOS R5, R5 C, RF 16, Sony a7C R, a7C II, FE 12-24, 16-35 II, 200-600, 135, 100-400, 70-200 F4 II, RRS Ascend-14 Long Integrated is not nearly long enough for any decent nature photography and 450mm equivalent focal length still falls short for most. At best, this is a stop gap lens."
Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Interchangeable Lens Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Interchangeable Lens
The Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD Lens features a popular and useful focal length range, a nice design, USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) AF and VC (Vibration Compensation) for a very affordable price. The minus side is the focusing mechanism. It has slow focusing (esp. in Macro mode). I prefer using manual override for macro. Sometimes it hunts too much when used in lowlight situation. Pretty leisurely focus speed: you can attempt some action shots with it, but be prepared for (very) low hit rate. If you've got sufficient light, and its laterally moving, you're be better of in manual focus for this type of thing.Combining a somewhat slow AF speed with a relatively narrow aperture means that this lens is not the best choice for sports photography.
