About this deal

Hearing Things is a fun lip-reading game for all the family. Put the headphones on and guess what your teammate is saying by reading their lips. However, it might not be a phrase you?ve heard before, such as ?pigeons like to cuddle?, as each card contains a totally random phrase! IF you guess the phrase correctly, you win the card. The player with the most cards at the end of the game wins! Includes 1 set of game headphones with built-in sounds and timer, 150 cards, and game guide. Lip-reading challenge game Take turns wearing speech-cancelling electronic headphones Includes 150 cards with 600 phrases Guess the phrase correctly to win the card The player with the most cards wins My family lost our 16 year old to suicide in August 2014. I write about this occasionally, and I collect smiles as often as possible.

Side effects from medicine. If you begin to hear things once you start a new medicine or your doctor puts you on a higher dose of something you already take, that change could be the reason. It most often affects older adults and gets more likely the more medicines you take. This game gave me a lot of anxiety as a kid growing up. Nobody likes to fail or be the one who messes things up. I was pretty much doomed from the get-go on this one. Whispering is challenging for everyone regardless of hearing abilities, so it’s a great opportunity for others to see the importance of enunciating and speaking clearly. Not covering your mouth, being clear, and facing us go a long way! “Whispering is challenging for everyone regardless of hearing abilities, so it’s a great opportunity for others to see the importance of enunciating and speaking clearly.” Charades I rely a lot on body language and facial expressions to make up for the words I don’t catch when someone is talking. Charades is a fun game. It’s a good way for others to learn how to pay attention to body language and new ways of expressing themselves when interacting with someone who is deaf/hard of hearing. Word Jumble Agree on a scoring system before the game starts. Correct guess = one point, partially correct guess = half point, wrong guess = zero points. The fun of this game really comes from the incorrect guesses made by the player wearing the headphones. While playing, many stupid guesses were made and it just adds to the hilarity. Nothing throws you for a loop like when you swear you can hear something that doesn’t seem to have an explanation. If what you heard really doesn’t have a source, it might be an “ auditory hallucination.” It can range from a simple sound to hearing music so clearly, it’s hard to believe there’s no band or radio nearby. There is no limit on the number of participants that can play the whisper challenge; so, play with as many people as you want. Mental illness is one of the more common causes of auditory hallucinations, but there are a lot of other reasons, including:

Have you ever played the game where you whisper a phrase to the person next to you and they pass it on? Well, imagine taking that game to the next level! The Whisper Challenge is a hilarious game where one person wears headphones blasting loud music, while the other person whispers a phrase. The challenge is for the person wearing the headphones to try and guess what was whispered, which can result in some funny and unexpected phrases. Trust us, it’s a game you won’t want to miss out on! Mental illness. Hearing voices is very common with schizophrenia. The voices may seem to come from inside your head or outside, like from the TV. And they could argue with you, tell you what to do, or just describe what’s happening. It can sometimes happen with other mental illnesses as well, including: The important thing in all of this is to learn how to effectively communicate with people of all communication levels. Let people know you’re willing to try something new and that inclusivity is necessary!

This is kind of a funny one as I legitimately still don’t know if I’m hearing anything similar to what hearing people hear when I have my hearing aids on. This simulator does a pretty accurate job of depicting what it’s like to hear these noises when I don’t have my hearing aids on. I have severe hearing loss, so most of these things come across in vibrations more than actual noise when I’m aid-less. Hasbro has decided to bring this game to the masses by releasing “Hearing Things,” boxing up the concept and providing phrases so you can play straight out the box! What do you get? Migraines . Often, if you get migraines with auras, you see things. But some people hear things instead. Usually, it’s voices. And that may be more likely if you also have depression. The other players in the team then take it in turns reading aloud the phrases printed on the cards. Once a phrase has been correctly guessed, the player reads the next card and so on, until the 60 seconds are up. The other team then does exactly the same and this continues until a winner is declared (the amount of points needed to win is determined by the players). This list of whisper challenge phrases contains short and simple words that should be easy to guess. It is perfect for when you want to throw them a bone. If you are more cunning, you could start with easy guesses to help get their guards down, and then, when they feel this is easy, you fry their brain with harder whisper challenge sentences.

When you play the whisper challenge, you don’t want the person with the headphones guessing correctly, so you need whisper challenge phrases or sentences that would be difficult or confusing to guess correctly.Intense stress . Serious stress, as you might have after going through something traumatic, can cause hallucinations. It’s especially common to hear the voice of a loved one after their recent death. Split the players into two teams and decide who is going first. One player starts by putting the headphones on and presses the button on the side to initiate the off-putting sound effect (it sounds like you are in a room of very loud people talking all at once!). This game is my gold mine. I rely a lot on lip reading, so this is where I excel. A lot of people, hearing and deaf/hard of hearing, do not rely on lipreading for communication, so this game challenges you to really pay attention to the way people speak and reinforces the importance of enunciating. I consider this almost the inverse of telephone. It’s frustrating but so satisfying when you do get it right! Phonak Hearing Loss Simulator
