Hearing Things is a fun lip-reading game for all the family. Put the headphones on and guess what your teammate is saying by reading their lips. However, it might not be a phrase you?ve heard before, such as ?pigeons like to cuddle?, as each card contains a totally random phrase! IF you guess the phrase correctly, you win the card. Charades is a fun game. It’s a good way for others to learn how to pay attention to body language and new ways of expressing themselves when interacting with someone who is deaf/hard of hearing. Correct guess = one point, partially correct guess = half point, wrong guess = zero points.The fun of this game really comes from the incorrect guesses made by the player wearing the headphones. While playing, many stupid guesses were made and it just adds to the hilarity. Nothing throws you for a loop like when you swear you can hear something that doesn’t seem to have an explanation. If what you heard really doesn’t have a source, it might be an “ auditory hallucination.” It can range from a simple sound to hearing music so clearly, it’s hard to believe there’s no band or radio nearby. There is no limit on the number of participants that can play the whisper challenge; so, play with as many people as you want. This is kind of a funny one as I legitimately still don’t know if I’m hearing anything similar to what hearing people hear when I have my hearing aids on. This simulator does a pretty accurate job of depicting what it’s like to hear these noises when I don’t have my hearing aids on. I have severe hearing loss, so most of these things come across in vibrations more than actual noise when I’m aid-less. Hasbro has decided to bring this game to the masses by releasing “Hearing Things,” boxing up the concept and providing phrases so you can play straight out the box! What do you get? Migraines . Often, if you get migraines with auras, you see things. But some people hear things instead. Usually, it’s voices. And that may be more likely if you also have depression. The other players in the team then take it in turns reading aloud the phrases printed on the cards. Once a phrase has been correctly guessed, the player reads the next card and so on, until the 60 seconds are up. The other team then does exactly the same and this continues until a winner is declared (the amount of points needed to win is determined by the players). This list of whisper challenge phrases contains short and simple words that should be easy to guess. It is perfect for when you want to throw them a bone. If you are more cunning, you could start with easy guesses to help get their guards down, and then, when they feel this is easy, you fry their brain with harder whisper challenge sentences.

This game is my gold mine. I rely a lot on lip reading, so this is where I excel. A lot of people, hearing and deaf/hard of hearing, do not rely on lipreading for communication, so this game challenges you to really pay attention to the way people speak and reinforces the importance of enunciating.
