About this deal

Marshall is almost a decade into making headphones at this point, and its designs have been refined to a point where they don’t need to change all that much year-to-year. This isn’t usually a problem with Marshall headphones. Neither do this set come with a particularly bracing sub-bass, of the type on offer in some of the smarter-tuned, genuinely bassy headphones. I’d like a little more low bass; a little less upper bass. Since 1982, PCMag has tested and rated thousands of products to help you make better buying decisions. See how we test.

The Bluetooth Major III are almost twice the cost. However, in return you get solid Bluetooth stability, high-quality aptX streaming, and up to 30 hours of battery life. There are wireless and non-wireless versions of the Marshall Major III. I’ve tried both, and there’s quite a price disparity between them. The included micro USB charging cable is refreshingly long, making it easier to use. Marshall estimates battery life to be around 30 hours, but your results will vary with your volume levels. Pair the headphones to your phone and you’ll see an extra notification pop up, to let you connect them to your Google Assistant profile. These headphones don’t need Wi-Fi to make this work; it all happens over Bluetooth.Listening to music for 30 minutes was enough to induce that clamping feeling that’s all too common with on-ear headphones – an hour spent with the headphones on left our ears feeling quite sore. If you also experience this problem with on-ear headphones, we’d recommend opting for over-ear headphones, which are usually more comfy, surrounding your ears rather than being placed on top of them – or, for ultimate ear-breathability, try some in-ear headphones. In terms of design, the Marshall Major III Voice headphones haven’t changed dramatically since their wireless predecessor was released in 2018. They sport the same compact on-ear design, which is fully collapsible so you can easily stow them away in your bag when not in use. Remove the Google Assistant button from the Marshall Major III Voice and you have a set of headphones that looks almost exactly like the regular Major III Wireless. These on-ear headphones have fairly small cups and a leather-clad look inspired by Marshall’s line of guitar gear. Unlike many Bluetooth headphones on the market today, Marshall offers an excellent combination of stylish design, exceptional performance, and affordability.

New to this generation of the Marshall Major III headphones is support for Google Assistant – simply press a dedicated button on the outer right earcup to summon the voice assistant on your device.Presumably, Marshall used its previous mid-range approach to emphasise crunchy guitars. But it also had a tendency to make some vocal sound a little cold or nasal, which doesn’t make for the most engaging listen.

I used the headphones with a couple of phones, and in each I could see the battery level in the notification screen. Being able to leave the house at 40% charge knowing you don’t have to worry about recharging for sometime is wireless headphone bliss. There’s a detachable wire included, so you can connect your headphones to your device when you run out of battery. This wire comes with a single button remote control that you can use to adapt the functionality of the headphones.

Stylish headphones for guitar heroes

Pros: great sound, long battery life, great controls, fold up for travel, sturdy, great look, good connectivity Design is the most important element of the Marshall Major III, so let’s start by taking a tour of the Marshall amp-inspired bits. Though it’s not always easy to tell, the Marshall Major III are slimmer and sleeker than their older counterparts, though they maintain the classic aesthetic. The new headphones are also significantly lighter and come with softer ear-pads to allow for a more comfortable long-term wear. The first pair of Major IIIs that Marshall sent in actually had an issue with the headband, resulting in deformations. It was likely a one-off, but is a pitfall of a weaker structure as opposed to a single continuous piece of metal, as seen in the MID headphones. Considering all the aspects absolutely. Again my emphasis on sound quality, its clean, bright, guitars sound great be it clean or distortion. Percussions are tight as well. Just not the super thump bass generally expected out of headphones, that’s all.
