Difficulty Levels; Your friends can decide to play Shiver in two modes --- Survivor or Nightmare. Essentially, Survivor mode is the normal mode giving each player 16 hit points. Nightmare, on the other hand, is the harder version as when a character loses a quarter of their hit points then they receive a negative effect that can make survival even harder. If you ask me, there is no other way to play Shiver but using the Nightmare mode. You also get success for each Talent symbol you roll on the Talent dice. Some Talent dice faces have more than one Talent symbol on them. So you might roll that d8, show two Talent symbols, and get two more successes. However, two observations. That shiver-down-your-spine atmosphere is more like the moments of dread in Alien. Doom feels inevitable in the game. I’d use Shiver for one-shots. Secondly, my instinct is that the game will be twice as good in real life, in the shadows, with whispers, a stiff drink and friends around a table. Doom and Shiver

Fight your way through ghoul infested abandoned buildings, sleuth out a murder mystery, pull off a grand heist and fight werewolves, vampires, and monsters galore in this most Gothic of setting and story. SHIVER is perfect for a one shot or short story between main campaigns. It can also be used to form longer narratives tying one-shot stories together using rules for sequels. Just like in a horror movie, in fact, the characters will have to group together to be able to survive adverse events whether it is dark forces at work, terrifying monsters or disturbing mysteries to be solved.Each archetype, with the exception of the Survivor, has a preponderant linked Skill where you can assign the highest value, which is 5. I’m reminded of the classic and appropriately highly regarded board game “Betrayal at House on the Hill”, with its omens counting slowly up to the dramatic event. The Final Girl Although the themes proposed by the game are evident from the title, Shiver could have had a paragraph dedicated to explaining how to manage it at the game table. In my opinion, this is an important detail, especially for less experienced masters and it is a real pity that there is not even a reference in this regard.
