In this blog post we are going to review the VOLspeed V3 tuning chip. This chip is used to derestrict an eBike with a Bosch motor and works on any model from 2014-2021 including Gen4 Performance Line CX. Before we start, please note that removing the speed limit on your eBike can void your warranty, derestricted eBikes are illegal and only to be used on private land. Both modules are expected to be available from us in the store and from many dealers from 31 Mar 2022: You can also combine the alternative mode with the dynamic mode by pressing the WALK button again, which can also be seen in figure 2. As an example, Figure 1 shows the assistance of a Performance Line CX motor in TOUR mode at a set limit of 32km/h. At about 30km/h the motor starts to limit the power and when exceeding 33km/h there is no motor support at all. Briefly pressing the WALK button activates the dynamic mode and the display briefly shows 11km/h as an indication. The throttle now also starts at 30km/h, but ends at 36km/h. All fitted up fine, was really worried that the available space was going to be a problem though, and at first was thinking 'hmm this motors gonna have to come out' with a view to poking the module up into the seat tube or summat (this is on a 2020 Haibike AllMtn3 btw). The reason why riders love this tuning chip so much is that not only does it remove the 25km/h speed restriction but it allows you to easily set a new max speed up to 45kmh (28mph). However, you can also easily adjust each alternative mode yourself. To do this, with the tuning module activated, simply select the assistance level you want to adjust when the vehicle is at a standstill and briefly press the WALK button, followed by the MINUS button. Now you can adjust the support for 0km/h with the PLUS button. With the MINUS button you then switch to the setting for 10km/h and finally for 20km/h and above. Pressing the button again ends the entry and the set values are saved. Thank you. The V3 was the most reliable tuning chip on the market, resulting in very few 504 (anti-tuning) errors. The majority of errors are caused by riders consistently exceeding a high speed limit (>45km/h). As a result the V4 will only allow you to set a new max speed from 25-45km/h. VOLspeed have also improved the anti-tuning technology to reduce the chance of errors further, even on the most recent software update. Advanced Programming The VOLspeed V4 module must be connected to the e-bike motor, invisible from the outside. To do this, the module must be plugged into the connections on the motor. As these connections are located under the left motor cover, the motor cover must be temporarily removed for this. Special tools are needed to remove the cover, usually an ISIS crank puller and a TX20 Torx spanner (depending on the model). Tuning modules for Yamaha and Bosch e-bikes are offered under the name VOLspeed. The special feature of these tuning tools is that the tuning settings can be easily customised via the control buttons of the e-bike display - without a PC or smartphone. For example, you have the option of increasing the level of maximum motor assistance to a value of your choice; the 25 km/h speed limit is thereby lifted. With the VOLspeed V3 for Bosch, there is also the option to specifically optimise to 32 km/h (Bosch Gen4 error limit). Another original feature is the option to set a so-called "dynamic mode" - in this mode the unpleasant "wall effect" is mitigated, by which is meant the abrupt interruption of motor support when reaching the maximum supported speed. This leads to a considerably improved driving experience. In addition, the tuning can be switched on or off at any time via the e-bike display. Another plus point: even when tuning is active, the correct speed is shown on the display. New: Assistance levels can be individually configured (alternative mode). An individual configuration can be defined for each assistance level and called up very easily during the ride.
