Lisa is a brilliant young medical student who is the single mother of a baby girl, Sydney. She lives with her parents, Adam and Hannah, who are devoted to her and their granddaughter. The parents support Lisa financially and emotionally when she is put on trial for the murder of a nurse she was dating. Lisa is acquitted, but her parents discover that Lisa is seeking out men who are willing to have sex with her baby daughter. Lisa's parents come to the realization that their daughter is a psychopath (it turns out Lisa actually was quilty of the murder of the nurse, who was so horrified by what Lisa wants him to do with her daughter that he threatened to reveal her depravity to the hospital where she works). Adam and Hannah run off and hide with their granddaughter after Lisa threatens to falsely accuse her father of sexually abusing her if her parents try to obtain custody of Sydney. The first chapters were a bit on the rough side with too many unnecessary tangents from main character Zoe's point of view. However, that may have been intentional. Zoe wasn't supposed to be exciting. She was supposed to be a mundane, dull, average woman going about her day-to-day life. It was when Zoe got thrust out of her comfortable world into a whirlwind of panic that the story began to shine.

Helen Hunt joined the cast in June 2017. [8] [9] Principal photography took place in May 2018 around Chagrin Falls, Cleveland and Lakewood, Ohio. [10] [11] [12] [13] Release [ edit ] But what if your meeting was no accident? What if they were privy to your exact routine, watched you from afar and planned the whole 'accidental' meeting? Yes, Zoe works hard and it’s easy to assume that she is ‘put upon’, with her children and Simon all taking advantage of her, but that isn’t entirely the case. Rightly or wrongly, Zoe has made a very conscious decision to live her life this way. Her own young adult years didn’t play out the way she expected, and she wants more for Justin and Katie. She could ask them to pay rent, but she knows they’d then never be able to save for a place of their own. As for Simon, he has offered many times to pay rent, but Zoe won’t let him, and she explains why in the book. When she split with her husband Matt, she had to start from scratch and she never wants to find herself in that position again; even though she loves Simon and hopes their relationship is for keeps, she is astute enough to want to retain financial control of her house. So yes, perhaps Zoe does put her family first a little too much, but that is her choice, just as it is the choice of many single parents today. All the characters in this story are so real, from someone who is the main character right down to someone you would feel in life is insignificant.and a minor point, but zoe's boss getting angry about her terrified reaction when he reaches across her sleeping body to undo her seat belt when he is driving her home, knowing what she's been going through, is completely baffling. even if she wasn't already in a state of fear over the threats she'd been experiencing, it's completely bananas that a man she's not even particularly close to would think it was okay to do that. and to then get offended at her outrage and confusion. that's a pretty intimate gesture, and a hell of a thing to wake up to. a grown-ass woman can unhook her own seat belt, and it was an invasive and unnecessary gesture. was it meant to be a time-saver? bizarre. this is the kind of thing that bothers me as a reader - the only reason it's in there is to cast suspicion on him, and it's an inauthentic situation in any real-world scenario.

Zoe's only moments of relaxation seem to be with her friend and neighbor Melissa, who's always good for a conversation and a cuppa. I was a little concerned since I kept seeing 2 and 3 stars from everyone on Goodreads for this one BUT I am SO glad that I decided to read this one!!

Kelly takes an interest in the classified ads after Zoe alerts her to a possible connection to the case she's been working on. Finding a connection between the classified ads and other crimes could help her redeem herself. Four years ago, she was demoted from the Sexual Offenses Team to the Neighborhood Policing Team. I loved Kelly's passion for her profession and her protectiveness of her twin sister. She has a victim-focused approach to police work, but she also has issues getting too close to her cases. I was rooting for her! I wish Zoe and Kelly interacted more, because I would have liked to spend more time with her. There were lots of times during this book I felt I was reading a book written by someone who hadn't written before, the writing was amateur and the dialogue unbelievable in places. Your protagonist, Zoe, is tired, underpaid, works way too hard and looks after two demanding grown-up children. Why does she let her partner Simon get away with not even paying any rent? When Zoe Walker sees her photo in the classified ads in a London newspaper, she is desperate to find out why it's there, and more importantly who put it there. Worse still it's among the ads for 'escorts' chat lines and dating agencies. And so begins this journey of terror that knows no limits, but I don't want to give anything away because I wouldn't want to spoil the journey for YOU.

OMG! Towards the end of this book I felt as if I was standing on the edge of a precipice, my stomach chasing butterflies, and my heart beating fit to burst - but forgive me, I'm getting ahead of myself, because there's much more to come before then. I loved PC Kelly Swift's character in this one and liked how she was very empathetic and connected to her cases especially with Zoe and her family.

I really enjoyed this! I wouldn't say I liked her debut novel better this one is just a very different storyline and plot from her first one. They are both equally excellent but in different ways (if that makes sense haha). It took me a little while to get into, yes, as I found the main character (Zoe) to be...less than endearing. If anything, I worried that I'd not like the book simply because I found her to be overly whiney. Thankfully, that clears up as you really get into the intricacies of what's going on.
