About this deal

The Voigtländer Nokton 35mm 1.4 Classic E from 2017 is very small (67 x 40mm) and only 262g albeit its f1.4 focal ratio. Prices are around 700 EUR/USD. The aperture has to be controlled manually from the aperture ring of the lens. Full EXIF-data are transmitted, focus magnification and lens correction is enabled. I have noticed that in Adobe Lightroom the Samyang AF 35mm f/1.4 FE shows up as a Rokinon lens, which as I mentioned at the beginning of the article is the brand under which the lens is sold in many other Western countries. Le Sony 35mm F1.4 GM est le plus piqué de tous suivi de très près par le Sigma 35mm F1.2 DG DN Art, le Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG DN suit de très près Your sample of lens and sample of camera will probably vary; be sure to test it before you go off shooting. And then there are lenses like the RX1 Sonnar, which, despite being famous for being wider than 35mm has at least as smooth OOF rendering at 2.0 as the Sony 35 1.8 does at 1.8.

Price: The Samyang is the least expensive at 530 EUR/USD (EUR prices incl. 19% VAT). The Sony f1.8 sells for 700 EUR / 750 USD while the Sigma and the Sony f1.4 are the most expensive lenses in this comparison at 1500 EUR/USD. [+] Slowly turn the zoom ring to the left (towards the wide-angle end) while using your upper body and arms to move the camera toward your subject. Samyang XP lenses: Samyang also offers a range of ‘Premium Manual Focus’ optics for DSLRs, all of which are full-frame compatible and available in Canon EF-mount. Bearing the ‘XP’ (XPert) name, they currently range from the XP 10mm f/3.5 to the XP 85mm f/1.2. The 14mm lens is also available in Nikon F-mount. brought further recognition, with the iF Design Award (AF lens) and the Korean Government naming Samyang a World Class 300 Enterprise. The company also became listed on the KOSDAQ exchange.Unlike crappy Sony lenses that arrive with all sorts of microscopic white specs on them, this Rokinon lens arrived perfectly clean. As well as wide-angle, standard and telephoto manual-focus lenses, specialist optics in the range include macro and tilt/shift lenses. Samyang also makes cine lenses but, for now, let’s take a closer look at some of the most popular lenses in the autofocus, premium manual, crop-sensor manual and full-frame manual lines.

Chromatic aberrations, typically seen as purple or blue fringes along contrasty edges, were quite prevalent in our test shots, as shown in the examples below.was another hectic year, with introductions of more XEEN Cine lenses and, for the first time, Premium MF lenses and a new range of mirrorless AF optics. These were impressive right from the start. The XP 85mm lens was also given the ePHOTOzine accolade of Gear of the Year. Some Samyang lenses come in just one mount, some are available in a couple of mounts, and some are made in every mount under the sun! Focus accuracy and repeatability is critical to consistently produce sharp shots especially with large aperture lenses. Repeatability (the accuracy of focus on the same subject after repeated focus-acquisition) of this lens is the poorest I’ve seen so far since testing FE-mount lenses. It measured only 92.8% in Reikan FoCal with acceptable repeatability over 20 shots when focusing from further away but with 6 outliers out of 20 shots when the lens focuses from a closer distance. I also noticed a pretty erratic behaviour of focus-by-wire when trying to manually focus the lens. These might be problems of my individual copy but I strongly advise you to test your copy for these glitches before you buy. John started off by asking why Jayce had chosen Leigh Spinners Mill rather than a high street location.

Jayce - Originally I was a Nikon user, but then was attracted to the retro style and feel of Fujifilm cameras, especially with the great aperture rings on many of their lenses. I then discovered the various benefits of Sony with the Samyang lenses, settling on a simple duo of lenses, 35mm and 85mm, for most of my wedding photography. I used to shoot with a 70-200mm lens for portraits, so I will be looking at the Samyang 135mm soon to see how I get on with it. But for most of my shoots, the 35mm and 85mm are so light, handle so well and are so sharp that they are the main lenses. Distortion is -1.86% barrelling, not excessive but potentially noticeable in architectural shots. Again, this is easily corrected if necessary. As usual I’ll have a look at the technical data of the Samyang AF 35mm f1.4 FE first. I’ve rated the features with a [+] (or [++]), when it’s better than average or even state of the art, a [0] if it’s standard or just average, and [-] if there’s a disadvantage. For comparison I use the Sony FE 35mm f1.4 ZA, Sony FE 35mm f1.8 (“Sony f1.4” resp. “Sony f1.8” for short) plus the Sigma 35mm f1.2 DG DN Art (“Sigma”).The Samyang AF 35mm F1.4 FE II is designed for use on Sony’s full-frame mirrorless cameras such as the Alpha A7R IV. Image credit: Andy Westlake Falloff of illumination towards the corners is typical of wide angle, fast aperture lenses. At f/1.4 the corners are 2.63 stops darker than the image centre and visually uniform illumination is achieved with the lens stopped down to f/5.6 and beyond. If your current firmware version is lower that the version being offered below, please update your firmware now. I bought this copy used from my own money and used it for several months before writing this review. Features Sony Alpha 7R IV, Samyang AF 35mm F1.4 FE II, 1/5sec at f/2.8, ISO 1600. Internally, the optical construction is made up of 12 elements in 10 groups. Two of these are described as High Refraction (HR), while one is an aspherical element to minimise chromatic aberration. Even pointed directly into the sun (I have my blind neighbor do this for me), ghosts are still nearly nonexistent.

Nikon' AF fine tune won't help you: it only adjusts AF, but since this is manual focus, sadly it doesn't apply.
