About this deal

if you are new to OLED or looking for an excellent all rounder, the C1 is hard to beat at the price point. Skin tones looked natural and scenes had an added depth thanks to nicely detailed shadows, mid-tones and peak highlights Upgrading on the more basic LG OLED TVs, this LG 55 inch TV features a premium 100Hz/120Hz panel. Refreshing at twice the rate of standard TVs gives smoother motion, greater detail and much improved game play – especially with the latest games consoles. HDR 10 Pro, LG's unique dynamic range technology, adjusts brightness to enrich colour, reveal every little detail, and deliver lifelike clarity to every image, as well as intensifying conventional HDR content. From beginning to end, all of your favourite movies and shows will be more bright and vibrant.

Q4. If the panel and processor are the same what are the actual differences that make the G1 an EVO? Widely regarded as one of the best Smart TV platforms, LG’s webOS system continues to set the standard. The latest webOS 22 offers improved personalisation and recommendations. You can create up to six personalised profiles, with individual viewing suggestions, sport alerts and app lists. Dolby Vision IQ intelligently adjusts visual settings based on content genre and ambient surrounds, while Dolby Atmos offers multi-dimensional surround sound, resulting in breathtakingly cinematic effects.

For ultimate detail, in all environments, this LG OLED features Dolby Vision IQ. Dolby Vision IQ version uses data within the signal and light sensors inside the TV to adjust the picture quality for the best contrast. This improves the picture’s brightness, without ‘washing out’ the depth. You get a consistent picture quality, however light or dark your room is. Whether you’re watching a brightly lit sports event or moody movie, Dolby Vision IQ adjusts to suit. LG has partnered with NVIDIA and AMD to make LG OLED TVs the only G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync™ Premium certified TVs available to date. There is also a new Game Optimiser set up menu and there are four HDMI 2.1 (40 Gbps) inputs with support for 4K/120, HFR (High Frame Rate), VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) and eARC. We also have HGiG (HDR Gaming Interest Group) settings available for HDR gaming. Playing Horizon Zero Dawn on the PS4 allowed the C1 to demonstrate all of its gaming strengths – from smooth motion and detailed images to the precisely delivered metallic gleam of the robots. Whatever your preferred gaming genre the LG is sure to please, and the risk of screen burn is minimal if you’re sensible, watch a variety of content, and don’t leave games paused for hours on end. LG C1 OLED review: Sound quality The C1 is, of course, a direct replacement for the outgoing CX model and it shares the same design and chassis layout, as well as the stand. In terms of features, both models are incredibly similar with the same major features of HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision with IQ present and correct, but the remote control and WebOS smart TV system have been updated on the C1 along with Freeview Play featuring in full this year. If you’re mad about movies, you’ll love Filmmaker Mode. Designed in collaboration with filmmakers and Hollywood studios, Filmmaker Mode lets you experience the cinematic vision, exactly as the director intended. Overriding the TV’s own motion and picture processing, Filmmaker Mode presents the correct aspect ratio, colour and frame rate – just as the filmmakers intended.

The new Alpha 9 Gen 4 chipset ensures that lower-resolution content also looks good by applying AI-enhanced upscaling to 720p and 1080p sources. Blue Bloods on Now looks surprisingly watchable despite the lower resolution, with the processor upscaling the image as effectively as possible, while also applying noise reduction and sharpening where appropriate. LG C1 OLED review: HDR performanceThe design of the C1 hasn’t changed much at all from previous generations and has the same stand designs and chassis layout, but this year there are slight colour changes. The stand on our review model was a silver finish with a white rear to the panel that LG calls Vanilla. If you want a dark coloured rear then it is called Meteor Titan. A new remote control was also introduced this year along with new menu designs and a new look WebOS 6.0 smart system which you will either love or hate, more on that later. The newly revamped home screen provides personalised content recommendations, easier access to favourites, and centralised control of linked devices. Sports Alert sends you notifications prior to, during, and after games. You'll never have to worry about missing any of your favourite teams' big plays, even if you're watching something else. Q3. Does the panel used by the C1 have the same new compounds and materials that the G1 has for better colour and brightness? Motion blur is reduced by advanced motion handling technology, resulting in smoother action and a crisper viewing experience. Even in a fast-paced sport, notice the minute and subtle details of each play.

As a gaming TV, the C1 also has all the bases covered to be a complete all-rounder for film, TV and gaming with four HDMI 2.1 ports and features which include VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) and an HGiG (HDR Gaming Interest Group) setting. There is also G-Sync and AMD support which makes the C1 one of the most advanced gaming sets of 2021. LG ThinQ is here to help you get the most out of your TV. Choose your preferred voice assistant and use your voice to control your TV with an all-new home screen that offers more convenience and control. While the LG G1, Sony A90J and Panasonic JZ1500 can go that little bit brighter [...], in isolation the C1 gets very close to that level at a lower entry point.. Gaming Optimizer centralises all of your game settings. No matter what type of game you're playing, it automatically adapts the display to optimise graphics. You may also switch between NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync to make all of your games sharper and smoother, with less latency, stutter, and tearing.AI Picture Pro and AI Sound Pro harness artificial intelligence to stunning effect. AI Picture Pro uses deep-learning algorithms to recognise content, remove noise and optimise the picture. AI Sound Pro leans from more than 17 million audio data points, identifying voices, effects and frequencies. From here, it optimises the sound by genre, giving a more natural sound quality. LG’s powerful processing also helps in getting the very best from HDR10 material. Whether watching movies or gaming with HDR10 games, HDR10 Pro intensifies the regular HDR experience. HDR10 Pro automatically adjusts the brightness, enhancing colour and detail for a more vivid picture. The LG C1, like previous C models, is the sweet spot in the 2021 OLED TV range from LG and offers a few small upgrades over last year’s CX. It is available in screen sizes ranging from 48-inch (OLED48C16LA), 55-inch (OLED55C16LA), 65-inch (OLED65C16LA), 77-inch (OLED77C16LA) and a whopping 83-inch (OLED83C14LA) and we are reviewing the 65-inch version. Speaking of which, the response times in the dedicated Game Optimiser mode are exceptional. I measured an input lag of 12ms on a 60Hz signal (both 1080p and 4K HDR), and this halved to an insanely fast 6ms on a 120Hz signal. This year LG has added a Prevent Input Delay (Input Lag) setting that can boost the response for 60Hz content, reducing the delay to below 10ms. The C1 supports most of the HDR formats including HDR10, HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma), Dolby Vision and Dolby Vision IQ and the excellent Filmmaker Mode that matches industry standards for content mastering. There is no HDR10+ support, but we don’t see an issue with that, given the small amount of content that uses the format.
