About this deal

We will update this article with battery life measurements once we're able to review the controllers, but it's likely that all the advanced functionality means battery life is worse than the Quest 2's Touch controllers, which regularly last several months on a single AA battery. Right now, it looks like they can last up to 8 hours on a single charge, according to Meta leadership and a few developers with early access to the headset. Specs-wise, the Meta Quest Pro has an advantage in terms of raw performance with its 12GB of RAM (compared to the Quest 3’s 8GB), but the graphical capabilities of the Quest 3’s Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset are better than the Pro’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 1. When exploring VR worlds using the Quest 3, for example, you can expect shadows and reflections to behave more realistically, and for spaces to feel more heavily populated with interactable items and NPCs. On paper, both the Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest Pro deliver full-colour mixed reality. In practice, the Quest Pro delivers vastly inferior MR compared to the Quest 3. The main issue is that the Quest Pro’s passthrough is particularly grainy. In bright rooms it's passable, but barely, and it’s pretty unusable in darker spaces. The Meta Quest 3 uses an additional camera, so its passthrough looks a lot clearer. It still isn't quite perfect, but we found the experience to be more enjoyable and worthwhile on the Quest 3 – we can actually see ourselves using MR regularly with the new headset. As a result of its depth sensor and improved AI, you’ll also find the Quest 3 is better at detecting objects and mapping out your room than the Quest Pro. This allows its mixed reality experiences and MR objects to exist more realistically in your real-world space – providing yet another improvement for the Quest 3. Meta Quest 3 vs Meta Quest Pro: Verdict

As for battery life, both headsets are fairly similar. The Meta Quest 3 delivers 2 hours and 12 minutes of use, while the Meta Quest Pro lasts 2 hours. Meta Quest 3 vs Meta Quest Pro: DesignThe curved thumb rest on the controller has a pressure sensor that can sense up to 6 newtons of force. Meta says when combined with input from the index trigger this enables a “precision pinch grip” interaction and the ability to squeeze objects held between your thumb and finger. Both gadgets might be worn on your head, but they offer pretty different designs in a few key ways. While the best Quest 2 hand straps can offer additional comfort enhancements for Quest 2 controllers, we won't know for a few weeks yet if Quest Touch Pro controllers get any meaningful new accessories to help alleviate some of these potential issues. Meta Quest: *Parents:* Important guidance and safety warnings for children's use here. Meta accounts for ages 10+ on Meta Quest 2 and 3; all other Meta Quest headsets for ages 13+. Complete with that are a handful of new sensors that let players more accurately grab and squeeze objects in VR when games and apps support advanced features. Even without proper support, it's just easier to point at and grab objects — and, subsequently, throw them — using Quest Touch Pro controllers. There are even pressure points for your fingers, making it feel more like you're grabbing virtual objects. Developers can implement these use cases manually at launch, and an API will be released in the future to calculate the pinch amount and pinch pressure. But not all is rosy with the Quest Touch Pro controllers. These controllers ship with a non-removable, rechargeable battery inside. While that's great for convenience and environmental reasons, it means that you'll need to regularly charge your controllers before use, just like the headset. It's also entirely possible that hand injuries could become more common without a ring of light surrounding the controller. While no one wants to break their controller's light ring when punching a wall or other hard object, a controller is much easier, cheaper, and less painful to fix (or replace) than a broken hand.See child safety guidance online at meta.com/quest/parent-info; Meta accounts for 10+. Meta says the VCM in the handle enables “the most complex and realistic haptic effects we’ve ever had via their ability to play audio like PCM data”. The “localized” haptics refers to the fact each controller has 3 separate haptic motors: a voice coil modulator (VCM) in the handle, and linear resonant actuators (LRAs) on the index trigger and thumb rest. The level of haptic fidelity this delivers blew me away in my hands-on time with Quest Pro. It felt like the sense of touch was coming from the exact part of the virtual object I grabbed.
