About this deal

Most brad nails are listed as having an 18 gauge diameter. A note on gauge: the higher the number, the smaller the nail.

Brad and finish nails may appear to have inconsequential differences; however, there isn’t much room for error when working with more delicate projects. How to Choose Between Brad and Finish Nails The diamond shape point present on roofing nails is specifically designed to keep the material intact. It does this by forcing small fibres to break rather than bending to split the wood. While roofing nails are not very nice for finishing looks, they excel at any application which requires a large nail to be driven into wood.

Cut Nail

Furniture nails are decorative fasteners used for attaching (or give the appearance of attaching) upholstery to wooden furniture. They have thin shanks, wide heads, and often come in a variety of materials and finishes. Although there are some debates around the classification of what constitutes as a brad nail. As far as we are concerned (20 years plus in the industry) a brad is either a 21 Gauge or 18 Gauge Nail. Benefits of Brad Nails Too much pressure is being released on the nail, causing it to blow through most of the top board. Instead of holding onto the whole board, the nail might only be grasping a quarter of the fibers.

While this provides less gripping force than other shank types, in places where grip force is not as needed, a smooth shank is perfect for the job. Smooth shank can also be ideal in applications where the nails are only temporary and intended to be removed again. There are a variety of different heads which will focus on different tasks. Wide round heads for roofing application, smaller heads for a normal application, tiny heads for very neat applications. While the head can affect the holding power, the strength of the nail head is usually secondary to the gripping strength the nail has in the hole. Roofing Nails

Panel Pins

Depth adjustment: this feature allows you to adjust the depth at which the nails go into the material. This is useful for counter-sinking nails. Roofing nailer - These heavy-duty nailers are similar to framing nailers. They drive nails into wood or other roofing materials at exceptionally fast speeds. A spring loaded roofing nailer uses springs to fire nails out of the chamber. It is typically only used by a professional to carry out roofing jobs. Installation of a fluted nail will be exactly like a normal nail installation. Fluted nails will excel at tasks that require higher levels of grip. Air nail guns are linked up to an air compressor via a hose. When the trigger is pulled, a powerful burst of air drives a hammer which forces a nail out of the gun. Air nail guns are often favoured over electric models because they are safer to use in certain areas where an electric tool could pose a risk, i.e., in damp areas or where there are combustible gases. Headless Pins The finest pins in our range and are 23 Gauge. (0.64mm in diameter) They have (you guessed it!) no head, and are fantastic for beadings and mouldings and because they’re headless, the finish is almost invisible…………. No unsightly wood fill. Sometimes referred to as a Micro Pin. They’re becoming more popular and surprisingly, give a lot of holding power. (although glueing is still advised) It’s currently available on our range in lengths from 12mm – 28mm.

Round - Round nails are the most common type of masonry nails to be found. Round masonry nails will excel at normal concrete work, able to burrow their own hole into the selected material. These masonry nails will also often be the cheapest of the masonry nails, while still being extremely hard and, depending on the makeup, rustproof. Brads are made up of a fine 18-or 21 gauge wire. Lesser in diameter than what is known as a finish nail and characteristically has less holding strength. Brad Nail - Nail Head: Nail guns work using the power of electricity, gas or air. The gun’s magazine is loaded up with collated nails, and when the trigger is pulled, it fires the nail into the material it’s aimed at. A new nail is then automatically loaded via a spring, which pushes the magazine up. If you find yourself doing some classic wooden flooring, a few cut nails may really bring out the classic look of your project. Finishing Nails Pros:Brad nails are small and leave a tiny imprint. Their thin gauge allows them to give you some holding power without causing an ugly mark in your project.Imagine a two-by-four. It can easily hold a person’s weight on their long side but risk breaking when flipped to their flat side. This is similar to brad and finish nails. How to Prevent Denting or Bruising Your Wood with a Nail Gun Certain wood species, such as cedar or redwood, will react with bright nails, even in interior applications. Stainless steel, hot-dipped galvanized, or aluminum nails are better in these instances. Brad nails can be driven too far into your top board. Due to their small profile, brad nails can easily pass through your top board. When this happens, the nail has virtually no holding power. Square - Square masonry nails are very similar in most qualities to the round nail, only differentiating in shape. They will both be made from hardened steel with a rustproof zinc coating. The double-headed nail or duplex nail is commonly found in stainless steel with a similar configuration to a ring shank nail, except with a secondary large head where the rings would normally be. Essentially, a larger ring lower than the head is used as a stop for the nail's depth.
