About this deal

Bringing Pandora to Life – Once James Cameron completes his virtual production process, every sequence is turned over to Wētā FX to bring Pandora to life—with unprecedented advancements in facial performance, environments and making CG water look real. Every time I see an old movie now I wonder what it would look like with a new remaster on Ultra HD Blu-ray. There are quite a few classics already headed our way like It’s a Wonderful Life, American Gangster, and The Wizard of OZ. But, already restored films like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien, Blade Runner, and Saving Private Ryan are a testament to how 4k/HDR and immersive audio can bring new life to classic titles. The 167-minute theatrical presentation of the film only will be offered in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio on UHD-100 and BD-50 disc configurations, with HDR10 high dynamic range (UHD only). (Per the studio, average bit rate is approx. 60.5 Mbps for UHD and 28.5 Mbps for Blu-ray.) (Note that the 170-minute and 178-minute extended versions of the film are not included, and many special features from the Extended Collector’s Edition Blu-ray release are not included, so fans may wish to keep that release.)

Many of James Cameron’s films remain unavailable in the Ultra HD Blu-ray format, including Aliens, Titanic, the original Terminator, and True Lies, the latter of which wasn’t even available on standard Blu-ray until the Spain release that emerged this year. Physical Blu-ray and DVD versions will follow on 5/2, in time for Mother’s Day. Capturing Avatar (HD; 1:38:25) is the same in depth four part documentary that was initially offered as a supplement on the Then there are the action scenes, and, boy, Cameron brings out the big guns; the final hour is pure unadulterated gung-ho fist pumping action played as only as he can – tremendously. And again, he takes his time to wind up to the action, ebbs and flows with the characters and keeps the tension high; another masterful case of pacing, music, and design.

Creating the Thanator – James Cameron and team reveal how the most terrifying beast in the Pandoran rain forest was brought to the screen. I’ve also given up on all the scientific nonsense as well, the world is alien; bullets might move through water as in air, liquid brain juice might actually stop aging, alien children might actually talk like kids from LA, aliens might very well have Mouri tattoos and mannerisms, who knows for sure. Stephen has delivered his thoughts on Walter Hill’s Streets of Fire (1984) in 4K Ultra HD from Shout! Factory. As fans will no doubt already know, this one is a real cult cinema gem, and it sounds like the 4K release is pretty fantastic, including terrific video and audio quality, as well as a great new feature-length documentary on the making of the film by Daniel Griffith’s Ballyhoo Motion Pictures. Don’t miss it.
