About this deal

The Nextbase 522GW dashcam is compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of devices. The device records in HD quality, producing clear footage even in low lighting. The dashcam is designed to be user-friendly, with simple controls that allow easy operation. The 412 only has one lense in comparison to the Nextbase duo which we reviewed previously. This being said the resolution of this unit is far superior with 1440p resolution and recording rate of 30 frames per second. Will provide you with crystal clear footage. The 4-metre cable is long enough to be trailed neatly through door seals and around the windscreen for a very tidy installation. The alternative is a hard-wired wiring set up; hooking the power mount into the ignition circuit and keeping the wires out of sight. On the other hand, if you’re keen to record extremely high-quality, clear footage - for example, if you live in a busy town and are prone to encountering hazardous situations - then the extra cash isn't too much of a push. It’ll get you clearer, more fluid footage, which for a lot of dash cam buyers matters more than value - and it's still much cheaper than many inferior cameras. Just like the in the photos, it looks great! It feels very well put together, hard wearing plastic make for a good looking unit with the buttons easily accessed on the rear of the unit.

The 622GW includes a variety of useful features and world firsts. Extreme Weather Mode provides a clearer image in misty or foggy conditions, which is crucial when you’re driving in the winter or at night. What3words provides your exact location within three square metres without the need for a data connection, helping emergency services to find you in the event of an accident. Nextbase are Europe's leading car technology and dash cam brand, with a product to suit every requirement. Nextbase dash cams are designed in the UK, with key focuses on video quality and ease of use. Nextbase began their journey providing a wide range of in-car technology products including DVD Players, before moving onto dash cams and in-car safety products. It sits very well in the purpose built magnetic cradle which can be fitted permanently in the car and is unlikely to fall out if you have a minor accident. Simply put the unit near the magnet when you enter the car and it will attach itself.

For the camera nerds, the 422GW has a better lens which has an f/1.3 aperture as opposed to f/1.6. Essentially, this means that more light enters the camera. That extra adjustment does have a big impact on the quality, especially under darker lighting. The Nextbase 622GW offers the highest image quality of any dash cam currently on the market, providing stunning 4k recordings at 30fps. The image stabilisation system reduces vibrations from your vehicle and improves footage clarity, while the Super Slow Motion feature means that drivers can view recordings in 1080p HD at 120fps. On the dash cam's screen you'll see a menu of 3 options. Please select 'Mass Storage' on the Dash Cam screen and then OK so that only that displays on the screen. One big thing, there is no memory card supplied with the unit? So you will need to buy a separate Micro-SD card, remember the maximum on this unit is 32GB. Below are links to step by step instructions about how to update the firmware on your Nextbase Dash Cam. The Firmware Update Guides contain instructions for both Windows users as well as Mac users. Select the Dash Cam you have and wish to upgradeThe 422GW has a camera resolution of 1440p, more commonly known as 2k. Whilst the camera does also offer 60fps, you will need to keep the resolution at 1080p to utilise this. Then the Dash Cam will be visible as a removable drive on your computer. If you go into My Computer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) you will be able to see the Dash Cam listed as a drive, usually called NEXTBASE. Plug your Dash Cam in. Ensure the cable is plugged directly into the Dash Cam and NOT via the mount. There are much cheaper cameras on the market. Nextbase also offer a range of other cameras which come in at a much lower price than this unit and have much the same qualities. If you need to record in a really good quality then this unit provides this in enormous abundance.

It’s priced slightly higher than the Nextbase 312GW. That buys better image quality and a touch-sensitive interface, but other than that the two cameras are quite similar. So is the 412GW worth the extra? The internal hardware and software are where you’ll find the major differences as it’s the first in the series that features WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS connectivity, that’s where the GW comes from. This allows you to connect the 322GW to the MyNextbase Connect app and view your dashcam footage on your mobile phone. By comparison, the 222 dashcam requires you to take out the SD card and insert it into a laptop or PC. Plug your Dash Cam in. Ensure the cable is plugged directly into the dash cam and NOT via the mount. They follow the same pattern as the series 1 range, with 6 devices covering every segment of the market from the budget 122 up to the highest spec 622GW.The addition of Bluetooth means the 322GW also has emergency response features. In case of an emergency, the camera can alert the emergency services and provide them with your location and other relevant details. There are safeguards in place to prevent accidental calls. The 122 is right at the lower end of the market and is a small, compact device that comes at a budget price. It has all of the essential features you need from a dashcam, including loop recording which writes over the footage you don’t need so you never need to delete the footage. If you need to keep footage, you can manually save it or the built in G-sensor can detect crashes and protect footage for you. GPS data is plotted on a map along with G-forces, speeds travelled and lots of other very useful information. Proving very popular when trying to deal with your insurance company as this data is normally very hard to prove without such a technology. Can take a card up to 32GB. Giving you just over 2 hours of recorded footage before it writes over the video and the same for running at 1080p recording. Vital for recording and storing the video you catch on your 412GW. G-Sensor:

Nextbase iQ is the world’s first truly smart dash cam. With smart alerts to protect your car as the iQ continually monitors movement around the vehicle, expertly detecting potential threats. If the Nextbase IQ detects something unsual by your vehicle, it will let you know so you can intervene with voice or an alarm.

Nextbase have reserved many of their best features for the 622GW which was announced later than the other devices in the Series 2 Dashcam range and only went on sale in 2020. Nextbase have gone all out to make sure this device is worth upgrading, another feature is the extreme weather mode which uses sophisticated algorithms to improve visibility in fog or other bad weather. The 412GW works like any other dash camera, switching on when it gets power and then automatically recording short clips until full. It then loops over old footage, so it’s always on. If the built-in G sensor detects something unusual, such as hard braking or a bump, it will mark the footage to be saved, so it won’t be recorded over. On the Dash Cam's screen you'll see a menu of 3 options. Please select 'Mass Storage' on the Dash Cam screen and then OK so that only that displays on the screen. The built in GPS will continuously monitor you whilst driving, in the event you have an accident this information can prove vital to defend how fast you were travelling, whether you were at a standstill etc. It will keep a log of speed you are travelling in too and can provide valuable evidence you weren’t in the wrong should the worst happen. 3” LED screen:
