About this deal

The Donner DEP-20 is considered by many people to be the best beginner’s piano out there. However, the Yamaha P-45 gets many of the same praises from a lot of experts in the piano world. This piano does feature 88 weighted keys, which is a real bonus at this price point. They have a nice weight to them, too - not too heavy and not too light. Playing these after transitioning from a spring-loaded keyboard is going to take a while, but it's an imperative part of learning to play the piano, and for the target market of the Donner DEP-20 they've done a pretty good job. The keys are plastic throughout, and the action is graded, meaning the keys at the bottom are heavier than at the top, which is just like a real piano. The DEP-20 is designed to be a portable digital piano, hence the compact dimensions and low weight. You can easily transport it to piano lessons, or maybe where you have a gig. Sound The Donner DEP-20 also has a sort of scaled hammer action with heavier left keys and lighter right keys. However, the realism of the DEP-20 is nowhere near the Yamaha P-45. With that said, the Donner DEP-20 is still a great option with realistic hammer action, just not as good as the action on the Yamaha P-45.

The volume produced is excellent if you want to jam along with friends or even have those first band rehearsals at home (when you reach that stage). At first glance, it may seem like the Donner DEP-20 has a better tone than the Yamaha P-45 because of all the different voices it has. On top of that, both of these pianos use the same tone generation method. However, after testing out the different voices on the DEP-20, I found that they weren’t as high-quality as the ones on the Yamaha. When buying a beginner’s piano, quality is definitely better than quantity, which is why these two pianos are tied in terms of tone. The digital electric piano is constructed with 88 full-sized hammer-action keys with adjustable touch response. This 88-key weighted keyboard allows adjusting your desired playing style. The 88-key weighted keyboard loaded with 238 types of tone like Ukulele, drum, bass, etc. vividly presenting voices of different instruments, arousing your keenness to learn music. With the digital electric piano with 128-note max polyphony, players could distinguish tone clearly in Chorus & Reverb under various occasions. This streamlined 88-key piano is designed for rehearsing, learning and creating, practice or performance. With layering mode, you can combine two distinct piano voices. For example, you can load string pad and piano voices at the same time, adding a whole lot of depth to your tone. This feature comes in handy trying to accompany a vocalist or even another solo instrumentalist. With split mode, you can assign different voices to either side of the piano, allowing you to give off the illusion of playing two instruments at the same time. If you plan to perform with the piano, this is a very useful feature. The Donner DEP-20 gives you two options; the included sustain pedal, which in all honesty is a lot better than you get from most manufacturers even at higher price points. Most pianos come with a very poor quality sustain switch, which tends to slide all over the floor as you're playing and doesn't give you any real control over the sustain - it's either on or off. I always encourage my readers to get rid of this and buy a proper sustain pedal. Yes,As you would expect the harder you press the keys the louder the sound. It is a fully weighted keyboard ( like a piano) and has quite a heavy action so it will take time to build up your finger strength, dexterity and flexibility.

While Donner is relatively new to the keyboard piano market, they are well-versed in making beginner-friendly products. This review looks at the Donner DEP-20, a budget instrument aimed at first-time buyers. About the author When conducting this Yamaha P71 vs Donner DEP-20 comparison, I found that the choice was very easy. The Yamaha P71 sports great tones, playability, and extra features that are far beyond its price range. When trying this piano out, I found it to be the best in its price range, which is why it easily wins over the DEP-20. Contains 10 different voices, including digitally sampled tones from real Yamaha acoustic grand pianos I used to play with a Yamaha keyboard that the keys weren’t weighted and it just didn’t feel right. This product will come with a pedal, if you want to know more, you can consult our after-sales service.
