About this deal

Like Junji Ito's Uzumaki, PTSD Radio takes something everyday and weaves it into a series of chilling, cryptic, twisted, repellant, and alluring manga stories that become more than what they first seem. A cliffhanger along with the "to be continued" postscript at the end of Volume 6. It states it will continue as of Volume 7. Here's the problem, that was well over four years ago in 2018. The other problem is that the original magazine it got published in, Nemesis, is now defunct and it wasn't a particularly popular series. What first got you interested in the horror genre? What was the first work of horror that truly made you feel scared? PTSD Radio ( Kouishou Rajio or After Effects Radio Network) is a horror manga by Masaaki Nakayama (author of Fuan no Tane), that consists of short, eerie ghost stories. Unlike Fuan No Tane, the stories here aren't completely unrelated and many intertwine at different points. A recurring theme is the probably-malevolent "God of Hair" and the people who worship it.

Wtf?! My skin is crawling after reading this. It was so bizarre and unsettling, the only thing that came out of my mouth after reading this was, "what in the f**k!" This included Nakayama himself, as one side of his face suddenly swelled up like a balloon and his temperature dropped...yet when he rewrote his idea to say no more, he suddenly felt fine. An unseen hand tugs at your braid. You find an old box with only a tangled mess of dark hair inside. You open a door in your home only to witness a river of curls slinking away, an ominous lump at its heart.

This is a weird, sort of disjointed manga of short stories featuring different people in a city or town, that’s affected by a curse or an evil after an idol/totem was destroyed. Author of the horror manga PTSD Radio had to quit writing his manga due to creepy incidents that started happening to him related to his manga

Although ITP nearly took his life, Nakayama experienced another bizarre medical episode in 2018, which he also chronicled in his manga. This time, the artist experienced a drastic drop in body temperature, in addition to the swelling of his entire face. After the abrupt appearance of this strange new condition, Nakayama stopped publishing new chapters of PTSD Radio while continuing work on his other series. NAKAYAMA: This is embarrassing, but I don't, not entirely. I see part of the chronology, and I try to fill in the gaps until I start to get a better sense of what's going on. Then I do that over and over.Carried into modern Japan from a forgotten past, the being known as Ogushi haunts and tortures humans of all kinds. Little is know about Ogushi's curse, except that it resides in an unexpected place: human hair. NAKAYAMA: Hmm… I'm no exorcist, so take this with a grain of salt, but I think if you run into a being like that, the best thing to do is not to take it too seriously. Most of them are just figments of your imagination. Most of them…probably…

Ogushi appears represented in shadowy arms grabbing people, rooting them to the spot before taking them...elsewhere. The manga relies on some jumpscares, nightmare faces, and fear of what comes next to keep readers hooked. As PTSD Radio progresses, it becomes clear that Ogushi is stalking and dragging people away such as the two men that were talking about a coworker's suicide being done by Ogushi. Skit skit skit. What’s that crawling in your mouth while you sleep? Next, it wriggles its way into your ears, your nose, your brain… Disclaimer: Like many horror series, this will contain depictions of graphic violence, among other triggering aspects like body horror. Viewer discretion is advised. It will also contain spoilers. Oct 31 The Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross Launches Special Collaboration Game Update With Overlord Anime NAKAYAMA: I often start by either making things slightly unbalanced or making them unnaturally neat. Sometimes I also include features that I personally find fundamentally, primally unsettling. For example, you know those perfect, straight teeth that Americans like so much? There's something about teeth like that, that have obviously been straightened, that disturbs me. I don't know why.

Protagonist Journey to Villain: It's shown that in the distant past, the God of Hair was a benevolent force that helped villagers as long as its rituals were properly observed. However, its power was badly abused by several prominent people to kill off their rivals and have a largely innocent but compulsively loyal woman pay for the crime. Having its main totem smashed likely didn't help either. This was not a good idea though. It seemed that whatever was haunting him did not want him to talk about it, because the disgrace around him increased. For this reason, he put on hold the publication of further extra chapters involving his old office but not PTSD Radio itself. Is PTSD Radio still on hiatus? Explosive Breeder: The Body Horror things multiply copiously inside human bodies, and exit in a rush via any available orifices. NAKAYAMA: I hadn't heard the expression “jump scare” [an English expression that has no perfect Japanese equivalent] before. You're right that surprising or frightening the audience is a major element of this kind of work, but sheer terror isn't the only thing I'm going for. I think the biggest thing is to shake readers emotionally, but only ever so slightly. That slight disturbance grows within each reader in its own unique way; that's what's important. What that seed grows into—the direction it takes, how widely it spreads, how deep it goes, how deep it is, its color and smell—are outside of my control, and that's the real key to transmitting a creative work. When you bend over the bathroom sink, you can’t see what’s behind you in the mirror. A gaping maw with too many teeth drags itself toward you up the stairs. This one was a fun one to read at night! It was creepy and the artwork made up for it. I love how unique the story is and the concept behind this book (each radio frequencies refering to each events taking place at different locations). From what they say, his latest manga PTSD Radio is so abhorrent that it has started to affect his health. Reports of Nakayama suffering Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) all of the sudden during its production are often mentioned to confirm this alleged curse. The fact that PTSD Radio is apparently on hiatus since its sixth volume seems to corroborate the author’s reticence to keep working on this manga.
